Ok, here goes my series of questions for the group. I have been doing some research on the POS Bose System in my 03 350Z. The word from the campfire is that if I put in an aftermarket deck, to replace the re-labelled Clarion junk, that I should take out the in-line amplifiers to the speakers. Is this true? Sounds right to me due to their being underpowered.

Second, I have seen some people discuss installing a new Sub behind the Driver's Seat, and adding an amp. Is this a good idea, and where do you put the Amp to drive the sub? Any suggestions on this?

Lastly, an annoyance that I would like to get rid of in the short term. The damn Audio Pilot turns down the stereo when I slow down. This is driving me crazy, with no info in the manual for my year, and no quick fix in the Audio Controls. Anyone know how to turn this crap off?

 

Search the forum dude. Lots and lots of reading on this topic. Also se my sig. This is my solution (and others) Do not use the factory sub location if you can help it.

 

I would replace the entire bose setup. I haven't heard a single good thing about it other than "It matches the interior." You will need, at the very least, a new headunit and speakers. I have a Track model, so thankfully I didn't have to deal with all of that, but I have my amps in the factory sub location (perfect for it) and an under-the-strut-bar sub box.

It seems to me, and I have heard it said by many, that the factory sub location is not optimal for subs at all for a few reasons:

1.) You can't fit any serious subs in there, due to the angle of the front of it. No big magnets will clear.
2.) Sealing it requires either a shitload of dynamat (suck) or a sub box made out of mdf or fiberglass, which makes problem (1) much worse, not to mention that there's either fuel pump or sending unit wiring there which will have to be covered, making replacing that (if it breaks) into a major pain in the ***.
3.) More potential rattles
4.) The driver's seat blocking it.
5.) It's a practically perfect spot for amps, which many of us on here have made use of.

About that stupid Audiopilot thing: Replacing the whole system not only results in huge improvements in sound quality, but also gets rid of the Audiopilot.

Heads up on this deal. Once I installed the Sub and tried to run the Remote wire, we had quite a nightmare. Ends up that if you use the EXACT wire you are supposed to, it will kill your deck and restart it over and over. You MUST use the looparound Navy Blue Wire for the remote. Hope this saves someone the time I lost...
