Default Farenheit Installation

I'm working my way to a Pioneer AVIC N2 so I needed an external screen to play DVD's on.

You need three things:
A 2003 lid cluster, a matching finisher, and a Farenheit T-7000MHR. I got the first two products from Performance Nissa at www.mynismo.com for $89.94 plus tax and the Farenheit screen from www.millionbuy.com for $139.95 plus tax. Both items arrived next day here in SoCal. Oviously if you've got the 2003 Z you're going to save yourself $89.94 - the 2005 door opens differently - flipping up while the '03's retracts.

You need to remove six screws - three on each side which hold the pocket in place. Save these screws as the can hold the screen in place later.

Here's where I ran the screws back into the black plastic behind the screen - not into it.

You'll also have to drill a small window to let the IR sensor have a clear view to use the remote control. Note that the cal strip is left in place in this picture to protect the screen during installation. It peels off to expose the cherry screen when you're done. I added 1/4" power connectors to allow me to plug this guy into the cable harness of the headend when I get around to it. Note the perfect fit!

And finally the money shot - the finisher installed and the door closed.

On a scale of one to five Z's I rate this one a simple "Z" - the tough part will be removing the front dash to slip this guy in place.

I have the 2004 touring with out Nav. I was thinking about adding a touch screen in mine, will the OEM Cluster Lid 2003 350Z Non-Nav fit the 04?
My lid flips up But would like it to fold in like the 03
Thanks for the info.

Paul350z nice job

Yes. I have the '05 and the '03's flip-up and slide back pocket dropped right in. Four simple screws hold them into the back of the center console. You can see three holes on either side of pocket in the picture above. The middle hole is a guide, the other two are for screws.

To install the fahrenheit screen, do you have to put in the 03 cubby lid, or would the 05 flip up lid work? If so, why did you do it, for better viewing I'm assuming? Looks really nice, very affordable and awesome upgrade, got to add that to my mod list!!! Thanks for sharing!!

The cubby in the '05 is one piece. The flip-up mechanism is attached differently than the flip-up and pull back door.

The '03 is two - you simply have to unscrew the back half off to open the hole for the screen.

The door on the '05 feels better and opens and closes easier. The '03 door requires a (really tiny) bit of effort to close.

I'm still waiting on the power distribution system parts from Parts-Express and the wiring interface and mounting from Crutchfield so I don't think I'll really start on the installation until next week.

The 7000MHR is a perfect fit - not a millimeter too big or too small. It was such a perfect fit I wasn't going to even bother to screw it in place - but did for the off road four-by-four action! The four arrows mark where I ran screws into the normal cubby mounting holes and behind the screen to press forward on the screen. I used a bit of epoxy to hold the screws in place on top of the tight pressure they already had going for them.

(See the third picture down above)

How did you hook up the wiring for power? What did you tap into?

Where is the 'head-end' exactly ... and more importantly, how in the world do I take the center piece off with all the gauges and stuff?

btw ... what's the difference between the 7000 and the 7001 ?

The head end is the radio just under the screen. "Head end" is fancy stereo for radio.

To get into the dash is pretty simple.

Can't help you with the model numbers.

I'm going to try to get the nerve to try this ... taking a bunch of notes and creating a parts list for now. In the interim, I need to see what exactly I'll buy to drive the Fahrenheit. Most of the NAV Systems won't play regular DVD's it looks like -- which rather sucks. And I don't want an indash b/c I want to keep the stock HU so it looks clean. Time to do some more homework.

Thanks Paul!

Dang, demanding aren't you ...

The Farenheit Screen:

The stock screen:

And now our featured presentation:

The screen is sharp and clear ... and it's really hard to get an action picture of a movie like this one.

With the AVIC N2 that's the only way I know of to get video playing while the car is moving. The simple parking brake relay ain't gonna' work when the N2's gyro detects movement. I'm going to wire up a front camera mounted down at bumper level for a neat view of the road to the 7" screen through a switch.

What camera are you planning on using and what are your thoughts on mounting? I was thinking about doing the same (though I wanted front and back cameras).
