Pics of my dvd install
I am attaching some pics of my dvd player, screen, and video game hookup. My installer did a great job and the video game plate is great. The power converter is hidden under the storage compartment. I just plug the audio, video, and power up and it goes straight to the nav. screen. My toggle switch is next to my VDC switch. It is black as well. I am really happy with how my installer did everything. Great upgrade.
Sorry that some of the pictures are fuzzy. I'll take some better pics.

Very sweet and clean install. Did you order an RGB converter to tap into the Navi feed? You also referred to the toggle switch - this means you still have Navi capability? Please provide details - I would love to do this but I cant find anyone in So. Florida to help.
Thanks so much

I ordered the RGB converter from Nav-tv. An installer has to order from them and get setup to do business from nav-tv. I still have my navigation. I can just hit the toggle switch and it changes from dvd to my nav. So, if I get pulled over, I can just tell the police officer that it is just navigation. Just call nav-tv and talk to someone there. Just tell him what you want and get his name. Contact an installer that you trust and tell him what you want. He can call and get all of the info that he needs. They send all of the diagrams to the installer. My "eye" for the remote is hidden to the right of the steering wheel. You can not see it, but the remote works great.
Thanks again for the help. I failed to initially ask - what was the cost? Installer? Nav-Tv? If I understand correctly, the NAv-TV representative will talk my local installer through the installation - or at least put him/her in the right direction?
Thanks
And again, very nice install - enjoy.

My total cost was about $1400. That included my game plate and converter.

I want to do this so bad on my G35C, but it seems so damn expensive. $1400 is a lot considering the cost of the NAV itself was 2 grand. That's 3400, the aftermarket NAV/DVD solutions are much cheaper and better. The only thing good about this, is the factory look. Can you break down the cost roughly, so I can see what cost what? Maybe I'll just put in the converter and the gameplate and use an external portable DVD player for now to save some money. Then add the DVD player later.

My dvd player was around $400, Game plate and power converter about $100. The rest about $900 for labor and the RGB converter, as well as toggle switch.
If you travel much, it is worth it.

Yes. It is does play MP3's.
Abyss was the first to do this install that I know of and he did a great job of helping me with some info for mine.
The members on this site are great. Everyone is extremely helpful and offer great ideas. Just wanted to offer thanks to everyone and let's keep making our Z's better.

I am wrapping up an install in my Z that works on a similar principal to the nav-tv setup. However, mine does not use a cheap, crappy, non-stealth toggle switch (don't flame me, I just don't like the appearance personally), but instead, it uses a small remote control. My nav conversion is done by a small black box unit (probably like the nav-tv unit), this is made by Typhoon Electronics (video-nav.com), and the video input to the nav screen is controlled by the Pioneer GEX-P7000tv. This unit gives you the ability of having 2 seperate composite audio+video inputs, tv stations, via 2 add-on directive antennas, plus it allows you to use the factory nav like nothing has been modified, and it has an osd for rear-backup camera, etc. All of the audio is handled via an fm modulator which is incorporated into the Pioneer unit. There are alot of options with this upgrade. The bottom line is that this solution will be more cost effective than the nav-tv system, and is not too difficult to install. Everything is controlled via a small, thin, remote control that comes with the Pioneer unit. I currently have a PS2 hooked up, but I am considering adding a dedicated mobile DVD player, like a Boss, or Qwestar--I know these brands aren't high quality, but there aren't a whole lot of options when it comes to adding mobile dvd players.
I will post a new thread with pictures as soon as this work is completed.

According to their website: http://www.video-nav.com/
the cost will be around $300 for their "black box" called the PBA-N1. The Pioneer GEX-P7000tv is about $250-300, so the total would be around $600, not including the shipping costs.
Extra costs would be for the mobile DVD player (or PS2), any extra cabling, and install costs. I can't see the installation costing $900 for this setup personally, and I feel that it can be done in 4-5 hours MAX. The first time disassembly of the Z's dashboard is quite an experience, but once you figure out how the harnesses run, and how to disconnect them, it comes aparts quickly.
I think the elimination of the toggle, and the addition of a remote to switch between 2 different sources, is a nice feature. I hope to be able to post some pictures soon...

onecoolee...I looked into video-nav before and contacted one of their techs. I emailed them and they said that they were still in the process of trying to complete the setup with our Z's. This is what he wrote Jan 10th, 2003 back to me:
Rod,
We have received some results back with the test Z and have had to make some changes. It is in progress but we need to see how these changes work. Please bear with us as we hope to have these problems resolved ASAP. I will let you know once we have the full results.
Thank you once again for your continued interest. Please feel
free to contact us if you have any further questions.
Best regards,

So my question is, did you actually have this setup done in your car already or are you in the process of having it done? All I want to know is if this thing works. If it does, I am going to buy it right away. I have the Pioneer GEX-p7000tv already so I was just waiting to see if their unit worked. Let me know....thanks in advance by the way!
