Smile [PIC] My dream system is nearly done

This diagram is what I am building right now.
My main theme is 'Look as stock as possible with aftermarket products

Right now, a stereo shop is working on fiberglass inclosure for 2 JL 10' that I'm gonna put in the spare-tire well. I'm also thinking to paint it with exactly same color as aluminium Z-logoed brace panel in the truck.

PS2 is working just fine.

The sony headunit produces exactly same color as other lighting in the car which is simply awsome.

Alpine 6.5' LCD working just fine too.

I cant comment on sound quality at this stage since it is still in progress.

I'll keep posting on this project within couple of days.

Thx

You can't buy this HU directly in the States or Canada since it is only available in Japanese market.

BUT, U can order one from some internet sites.

I guss this thread is very useful - https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....&highlight=dvd

Before you make decision to order, you have to consider... there is no warranty for this HU. You can't fix it in US(you have to send it back to Japan which is huge pain in my ***:icon8
No FM. Radio freq. range is diffrent in Japan but if you pay more, it is possible to get FM freq. adjuster along with this HU.(extra US$100~150)
And also, it is pretty costy. At the same price(maybe even cheaper), you can get a decent HU with XM radio, MP3 compatibilty, better sound quality.. etc. And since this Sony HU is little bit smaller than original Bose(or non Bose) HU, you have to make(or buy) some kinda dash trim for filling in the gap.

Most serious problem is... too many orange circles going around you

That looks fantastic!!! How long has the whole process taken and (I'll ask the inevitable question that someone usually ends up asking) if you don't mind saying, how much did it set you back? Also where are the subs and the amps going? And finally how much longer before you get it back?

IMHO, Sony should use the great picture you took of the stereo face open to market it, as it looks so cool with the blue lights streaming over the controls and the "brushed" metal face revealed. Great job.

Edit: Just saw that the subs are going in the spare tire well.

2 layers Dynomatted trunk. Still waiting sub-box to be painted.
I temporarily wired JL 300/4 amp for the front and the rear speakers.

Gives the interior a real circular theme. So very beautiful! Best set-up I've seen (or prolly will ever see) in the Z--

That's so tight it hurts! How's the Nav working? Is that unit easy to use?

Anyone2u.

The whole process takes full 7 days since it involves a lot of custom jobs like making a new dash trim, a silver painted sub inclosure, dynamatting, PS2 wiring, Navigation wiring and etc.
More custom job(labour) = More money.
If you don't want to make a new sub inclosure, instead, puttin only 1 10' into the stock sub location save a lot of money. Say... $1500? And you don't actually have to use two amps since the HU already has built-in 208w amp inside.
PM me if you really interested how much this setup cost.

Alpine Nav is CD-based and discontinued while ago so I could save couple of grand.(spent only $400) Not much diff. from DVD base but 1 CD only contains 4~7 states so you have to get several CD's to cover whole North America. Fortunately... You can download the Alpine map CD from the internet and burn it very easily. (I don't want any Alpine personnel see this thread )
I have 5 CD's and I think I can drive my Z to new Maxico without any problem.(By the way, I live up in Canada) It is very easy to use. Even my girl friend can use.

The whole system looks amazingly fantastic in person(even in picture I must say), and the HU blends very good in whole interior design(both color and layout). No regret at all!

That setup looks great. I've seen that HU around the 'net, but I've never actually seen it installed. It really fits with the design of the car. Many other HU's are a too blocky, too square.

My question is, how do you get the nav audio and DVD/PS2 audio to play?

I want to get a nav system, but I'd like for the audio to come through the system speakers, not through a separate nav speaker. I still haven't heard if this is possible. Well, I know it's possible, the stock NAV is like that, but I don't know about with an aftermarket nav.

where did you put your Alpine Nav unit?

sorry, can't answer that Q because I have a separate NAV speaker.

I put the Alpine Nav unit where a stock nav sits. Fit and finish is awesome and also, you can close the NAV-glove compartment door.

Default APPLAUSE!

that is the best application of a Double Din I have ever seen, other than maybe a manufacturer car.

great choice and job! I wish I could go double din, but because of some performance projects i have in store I need all the storage bins i can free up.

but wow. makes me want to buy another Z and keep it stock with just that audio/nav setup.

"Jealousy is a female trait" so, CONGRATULATIONS!

i honeslty been busy with the business, importlife.com. but get this, I locked myself out of my old user name! dont ask me how. but the worst part is now I am classified as a "newbie" lol. hopefully Tako will throw me the points I had before so i can at least choose my own avatar. rofl.

But i am back. and from the looks of it i have missed out on a lot of activity here. but stay tuned for some big things in 2003.

Congrats again to the hottest double din application. I am still wowed!

Sony unit blends awesome into interior...

But can you please tell me what you going to do with Playstation in the car? I don't have one, but suspect it's to play games, right? But then, you can't play games when you are driwing? Then what you need it for?
