Default worried about kick panels taking up too much room, worry no more! teaser pics :)

just a coupla teaser pics of kicks that i am molding into a 350's factory kick piece.

now before all the questions, here are some answers:

1. after talking to dls and powering them and listening, offaxis sounds great in the Z, good heigh and great imaging

2. These are NOT FINISHED only the first layer of glassing is done, there will be more glassing, sanding, and then the entire thing will be wrapped in black suede so no it wont be all rough like that. other options for this would be vinyl matching the interior perfect, or fully painted

3. the whole thing to the top of the speaker grille, protrudes out 1.25"

enjoy

oh and the end result will resemble something like this:

except this ca rhas a much smaller kick panel stock and he can only fit an off axis dls midrange and tweet, i think the Z kicks are perfect for off axis kicks...

oh if you are worried about the fuse panel, well, poping out the entire kick panel takes about what...1 minute?

whcih side? just for reference, if you spaced out the kicks another .5", whcih is nothing, th magnet of the speaker would hardly even go inside the kick panel...the driver side sticks out a tiny bit more thant he pasenger side, but .25" more, and it fits perfectly even wtih the fuses and stuff behind there

as for selling, i have no idea, making a set like this is very time consuding, and requires the right speaker to sound right...and DLS ultimate stuff so far works well

i doubt there are a lot of people on the forums who will be willing to pay for 6,7 or even 900 bucks for a set of kicks including the spekaer? no? but man they should sound good hehe

i'm not really hype about using DLS stuff. ALl i need is the kickpanel that can house one 6.5 speaker with tweeter. Like the door pod

Can i give you my kickpanel and you make them hold another set of 6.5 speaker with a tweeter like that? how much?

well you have to pick the speaker, i cant just mold with out having the speaker infront of me...i dont do generic molds like taht, i am sure there are people who will, but i dont hehe...

also depends on how waht stage of finish you want, just molded, or sanded and ready to paint.

on a side note, its so wrong to say "not hyped about using DLS" and show a rockford speaker, thats just balsphemous...haha almost sorta like me saying" hey i dont want to get a 350z" and showing a picture of a kia

hmm..if you just need a basic mold and strengthening and rough sanding, and you ahve you own guy do the final sanding and apinting, 250ish for both should do it, and that includes fully dynamatting the entire thing with about 3 layers...

but uh if you use the punch set for mold, and go wtih a different speaker, it wont look quite right at all...tahts why i say mold it with the sepaker you want...i am sure you found that out when you got hte door pods, tnat it may not fit quite as nicely as you want...

dls has stuff down at the price level of the punch too mang

but anyway, i still suggest find the speaker you will use in the final install, and then we go forward.

the speaker pod fit PERFECT with the OEM panel. However, the CF panel i bought, hehehe..they don't fit. So i have the pod collect dust now since i don't know what to use. CF or OEM panel.

I like the PUCH not because their sound quality but their grill. Let me do more research on the speaker and get back to you. Also, you have any spare kick panel that you can work on instead of me get mine off?

16psibrick, I thought the purpose of kick panels was to direct the speaker toward the listener? Imaging?

GQ, the sub install is big pimping!

the purpose of kick panels is:

1. to minimize path difference

2. to get the sepakers into some kind of quasi enclosure...

htere is nothing in there that says it has to be on axis, or off axis. different speakres, in different cars, respond differently...DLS ultimates, happen to doextremely well off axis.

but off axis kicks are nohting new, if you look at the past iasca world champions, i would say a good 40 percent of them had kicks that were completely off axis.

Very nice.....the mazda pick appears OEM. I hope to go this route soon.

I would say minimizing pathlength differences contributes to better sound quality than on/off axis kicks, JMO.

you are right but it really depends on waht speaker, some speaker works much better on axis, some much better off (Mb Q), some do well either way
