Welcome to the In Car PC club! I love mine. I have about 1500 MP3's on it, about 100 music videos too. I can play DVD's, I have a TV tuner (reception sucks though), I have CoPilot for Navigation, I have the Digimoto software for OBDll on board diagnostics and can clear CEL's with it. You can go with the trackball for your mouse. I have a small hand held wireless mouse that works nicely.

i am just a touchscreen away from my setup.

i have been preoccupied with my treo 650 but........................

i purchased a program for the treo called pdanet.

this cool little program allows me to share my phones broadband connection with a PC.

384/384 connection. really cool.

i need a coustom car cradle and run the other end of the cradle(USB end) to the PC. and i will have an internet connection everywhere i drive.

awsome i cant wait.

just was spending to much money decking out the treo with cool utilities.

i to am going to use a laptop.

i have two of them.

im using one of them in the car! but dont know which one yet.!

are you trying to run the entire system audio and all through the computer? The way i did it was to take the audio and run it through my alpine head unit through the auxillary input connection. This way, you just use the radio like you normally would for the sub/amp.

Can someone who has one of the Xenarc/Lilliput 7" touchscreens post a quick howto of how you got that puppy installed in the cubby hole? I have the Xernarc in my 03 cubby but its so ghetto rigged now with velcro and other crap that I hate it.. Yours looks much cleaner than mine, so can you post how you did it

with an 06 you will have to change to an 03 cubby/door. Not a difficult swap from what i understand.

is the monitor kind of blurry? (kind of like when you connect the PC to a TV through a S video).... Or does the monitor look just like a regular pc monitor?

Also what do you do when you turn the car off? Does the computer know that the car is turned off and then switch to battery mode and then shut itself down?

Buff, you can say mac, it's been done, seen it on this board.

Screens, Different people set this stuff up differently, depends what you want. You can hook your monitor up to the 12V rail of your PC power supply, so it's on when your computer is. Or in my case, I ran a switch and relay so I can turn the audio on without the key (show/parked mode) or with accessory like the factory and it will come on with the key. Most screens auto on and auto off when you apply and remove power.

The real trick with these CarPCs is a good DC to DC power supply that knows what to do when you start your car (and have very little power to run with), shut off your car (want it to send a graceful shutdown to the mobo, maybe keep it running for 15 minutes before shutting down, etc), look for Opus and M2-ATX power supplies.

Blurry, no, The screens I have seen people use, Xenarc, Lilliput and Dynamix have a real fine dot pitch and many more pixels than you can possible use. They look awesome. I have an early model hooked up to this computer and it, set at 800x600 it looks just as good as my Viewsonic VP9206 at 1280x1024, only much smaller. It's cool.

Nice setup Merk.

I was wondering though if there was any room under your screen to fab a place for an ultra thin slot loaded DVD player to go. Right where your SoundBlaster sticker is.

sorry for the Hijack but since you just finished thought it would be best to ask you. =)

Intresting, so if I place the infared board some where else I would be able to put the ultra thin slot load dvd player. I'm trying to make my car look stock, keep the stock HU and keep a dvd player up front. I'm really trying to make this work.

I've got a carPC in my G35, check out my cardomain page located here

More importantly, a great resource for installing carPC's in all makes and models is located at www.mp3car.com/forums My worklog/install page is located on it, here

Merk350Z, you've done a really nice job, and I'm not trying to steal your thunder. Your Z looks great!
