Holy crap that looks insane. Props to you guys.

Side Note: Are we the only four people on this board who like stereo installs?

I'm debating covering the stock plastic panels with that nice vinyl you gave me. It'll prevent scratches, which are so easy on the stockers, and I think it might look pretty nice. Anyone have an opinion?
Can you take that rear panel off completely? I don't mind if you cut into it but if it helps to remove it completely....

I think covering them all in vinyl would look cool if you have enough.

I like this "Floating Amp" design for SURE. There are SO many different ways this could be done, but I'm glad this one is being done with some flair. Unique.

Not sure what you're asking. Right now the amp rack can pop in and out without modifying anything. The reason I would need to cut the rear panel, the piece with the trunk light in is, would be so that I can get another few inches of clearance for the av.2s. It's plastic and pops right out

We'll do something along those lines

While that would work, the fear now is getting the hook on it without scratching anything

Yup, that's what I mean... instead of cutting it, can you remove it completely and create a new back piece?

Either way I'm fine.... just offering an alternative.

Any idea how much weight is being added to the car with all of this equipment?

That amp rack looks like its built like a Mack Truck.

I'm going to guess the amp rack is around 50 lbs. Each subwoofer is about 45, and the amps are probably around 15 lbs each on avg? So Quite a bit. Its ok though, it will provide traction for when Mike gets that turbo kit Right mike?

Sure we're adding weight, but think about how much we've taken out. Heck, those foam pieces probably weigh 12 ounces EACH.

If they made a smog legal cost effective S/C or Turbo kit, I'd be all over it. My last car was a S/C'd 4-Runner which ran great with the SC for 90,000 miles. My dad had an SC'd Firebird which was just as reliable.

Damn CARB.......

Overly beefy like 2 13" subs are overly subwoofery.

Started the day by yanking the old amp rack out.

Then brushed the front and side of it with the belt sander.

I really like the finish it produced, goes very well with the amps.

Then test fitted the av2, to make sure it would in fact fit where I wanted it to. Low and behold, success.

Then I taped it up for paint. The goal was to keep the front brushed and paint everything else black. And to protect the front a clearcoat would be applied.

And the result, came out pretty nice if I do say so myself

Heres where my day turned to ****. Basically heres my advice, don't try and drill and tap something without a drill press, it results in sloppyness and frustration. The concept was great, but it took a crap load of tweaking to get the amps to line up correctly.

Drill

Tap

Screw

Top done and looking good

In the car

And then I prepped it for fiberglass, which will begin first thing tommorow.

The soda can was only in there to hold the ring in place for the photo And don't worry, each box WILL be the ideal airspace.

Hopefully tommorow goes better.

All these pictures really show the quality and professionalism of your work, Dom. Love the hermetically sealed car.

Dom, if you don't mind I might ask you to make me a gun rack for the back of my Z similar to Mike's amp rack. Road rage on the Long Island Expressway can be brutual.

Wouldn't it be more convenient to have a motorized turret on the roof?
