I have used different products in my z....I have an Alpine flip out, I have used boston acoustic components, and Rockford fosgate amps. So Im not just biased on JL. I'm just saying that JL is one of the leading manufacturers in the country and it is American made. The statemant that he can make cheap piece of **** subwoofer and amp sound better than a JL System is ridiculous. I do understand that people have there own opinion of what "good sound" is...but when considering quality...JL is one of the best- Period
i have heard (1) ID Max 12 blow away (2) JL w6's .. i mean BLOWN AWAY.. even the w7 is no match for the ID Max.. I am sorry that you are really really into JL, however they are sub par equipment in my eyes... their components are rebadged MB Quartz... muddy and not worth the money.. their subs are weak with the exception of the W7 which is way over priced for its performance.. their amps are sub par...
I'm sorry.. I'm truely sorry.. back in 1999 my buddy had a pair of JL Components in his maxima.. and i had a pair of Alpine DDS .. i thought his JL Components were top notch.. then my cousin told me about a company called Diamond Auido.. and i purchased a pair of Diamond Audio Hex Components.. they just blew away the JL Components.. i mean BLEW THEM AWAY.. it was so bad that people at the drive through window complimented how they could hear the highs and mids as well as bass in my car.. these components were amazing.. Now i have a pair of Rainbow Components and they make my old Diamonds sound like factory speakers.. yes.. they are that good. You want to hear some good stuff.. find Kwame and go listen to his car with his Morell components.. its funny you guys have no idea what good quality is.. i hear people say time and time again that Bose is great.. lol..
Again.. back when i had my maxima i had (3) 12w6's in a sealed box.. i thought my maxima had bass.. i thought it was pumping.. then i replaced it with (1) ID Max 12.. later on i got (2) ID Max 12's.. SQ and SPL rolled into one.. it was dubbed as the BEST 12" on the market .. right now i have (2) Resonant Engineering 10's... they don't compare to my ID Max 12's... but its either run 10's in a Z or lose your whole trunk..
i called you ignorant because you are.. you need to open your eyes to other brands and equipment.. better yet.. open your ears and listen true sound.. I have a decent system in my Z .. its not the best.. and i know there are better out there.. but it will blow away ANY car with JL equipment.. i would bet my car on it

I'm wouldn't go out and make a statement that they're the best, nor would I ever do that with Focal
- but to say the things that you're saying just isn't right...
To the OP, nice install.

Just to be upfront here, the car that I'm 100% certain will make you lose your ride is a vehicle utlizing ONLY JL Audio equipment!

Not ignorant my friend....First we are talking quality of the product. My point is JL is better quality than these companies you are listing that more than likely produce 14 subwoofers a year that will be bankrupt after 6 months. Your listing these situations in which you heard an ID MAX 12 out performing a JL W7. That is great....but there are plenty of factors involved that can contribute to this. Just to list a few....
1. What kind of Box was the ID MAX in and what kind of box was the W7 in?
Air space and the type of vehicle play a tremendous factor.
2. What do you mean by "blown away". Im talking about sound quality here. I can put a pair of 20 dollar tweeters over a nice set of jl. They may be obnoixously louder and "blow me" out of the car but I honestly dont want to here a bunch of distortion.
3. What kind of Amps were being used? The JL W7 could have been underpowered.
4. How were the subs positioned? Down fired?
Dont list bs experiences with your buddies car without any details about the setup and using terms "blown away". Blown away doesnt mean anything to me if something is distorting and sounds like crap.
i can say that in 2004 at Daytona i heard the JL volks Rabbit
and wow it was really super i was impressed
but i have never heard another JL set up that justified the cost
i feel JL is among one of the best mainstream companies
like
pioneer
panasonic
jvc
kenwood
clarion
stuff like that
i have the utmost respect for JL in the fact they can get the money they get for their products , that takes tallent
of all mainstream companies Kicker is by far my favorite
and this year Kicker is coming out with a 10K amp
to all that have Jl stuff it is good , and usually JL customers only buy mainstream stuff

I'd rather have my ED sub that requires .4cu ft than a W7 that requires 1.3cu ft.

again it is all subjective
i can take the best equipment and install it shitty and it will sound poo poo
i can take flea market equipment and install it top notch and it will sound decent
install is 85% of end result and equipment choice is 15% end result
the install carries more weight than the equipment

LAWL? If you goto the JL Audio website and the Image Dynamics website..you will see that the Volume requirements are not the same.
Do you need me to post links because I can?
