Well ipod could be a source just as good as standard cds as long as it's lossless

Most of my music is in lossless flac format anyways

As far as the deadener goes... the only reason why I am hesitant on using rammaat BXT is because I read so many times that it's REAL sticky and it can be a ***** installing because it's so sticky... plus it comes in a roll so it curls up... SS Damplifier would be much easier to install... but you are right... rammaat is so much cheaper!

yeah it would be a pretty good source. I have no problem carrying around cd's though. Plus a good ipod source with lossless still wont outperform a drz with a good recorded cd. If i run any other headunit with an ipod connection ill have to buy another processor so i can run my 3 way front stage and sub actively. This way i have it all in one headunit. In reality i really saved a little money just going with the drz believe it or not. Plus it looks great and its simple.

on the deadener yeah it may be a little bit more of a ***** but that wouldnt matter to me i wouldnt spend twice as much for a different deadener that probably isnt that much better.

True on the sound deadener.

So if I had DRZ... I wouldn't need... let's say Alpine H701/C701 combo if I decided to run active on my 2-way setup? I'm sure Alpine 9887 has pretty good features for active too... but H701/C701 combo would make it much better... not sure if DRZ would do the job just as good.

it lacks a little compared to the h701 in the processing department just because its not a dedicated processor like the h701 is. It does a good job though. Most people wont see the point in using the drz, or even a mcintosh headunit, most people just look for features. It takes a real SQ head to appreciate the sound and function of them.

If your just going 2 way active 9887 may be all that you would need. There are 1 or 2 headunits on the market that will process 4 way active 3way and a sub... drz is one of them. There are many that will do 2 way active front stages with sub. If your going active hold off on the h701 until you use your 9887 to its full potential, then if you need more room to eq etc. then you can buy the h701. plus they arent exactly easy to come by right now since they are discontinued.
