Cool My stereo install pics - Almost done

Okay, here (click me) are some teaser shots of my Boston/Rockford install. Still have one midbass to install, soundproof the hatch, and build another sub box (didn't like how the first one turned out). Then plug it all in and do the big old smoke test.

Dissident,

You have a picture with the caption:

"Opening up the holes in the factory grill. Not pretty, but it works."

What is the technique you used? Did you just use an electric sander on the back of them?

Would you take one pic w/ the door off that shows the entire door skin? I'm planning for my install, and that is an elusive pic to find.

Not sure wha you mean. the pic I posted is all I did in the door.

Yes, I'm gonna be doing a second (didn't like the first) fiberglass box in the back where the foam used to be next to the spare tires. wish me luck. I hope to finish the rest, than give it the smoke test by this weekend.

I did break the passenger handle, so I have to reinfornce the end of it with fiberglass before I put it back (the washer busted through the end of it). And my ******* neighbor keeps complaining about me being parked in the driveway (cause he can't seem to back his lexux out unless the driveway is completely clear ), so it may be tough to finish in one more weekend, but I am running out of patience....

are you looking to see where the clips are? i'll be doing mine in a couple of weeks.. i'll get you a pic of the door then..

Dissident - hear you on the losing patience thing.. its taking me a while do do my own stereo and sound prooffing upgrade.. not doing a sub box just yet but been thinking about doing it in the same place at a later time.. would welcome pics of that process.

I'm looking for a shot of the entire metal part of the door. I'm going to sounddeaden the ENTIRE thing (not just around the speaker), so that it is completely sealed, and I wanted to see if there are a lot of holes. I'm going to cover the holes with metal first, and then mat over everything so that there is a good seal.

I am about to remove my doors and will get you those pics of the inner metal skin. There probably is no need to put metal over every little hole. Just coat it with one large sheet of Dynamat Xtreme.

It's done! Ugly, but done. And it hits as hard as I need it to. Probably still gonna sand and paint the top, but I've got sounds finally.

Whoa! I'm building a box very similar to that. I'm using an old Boston Pro 10.4. Geez, I hope my results are as good as yours! Any idea what the air volume you've got is? Also, do the rear panels cover part of your speaker? In the original design I'd started with, the rear interior panels covered part of the sub, so I'm redesigning mine to fit the sub on the other side of the plastic covers. I still can't believe that Nissan just filled this great space with a simple piece of foam! What a buncha knuckle heads!! By the way, did you fix the box down to anything or is it just sitting in there? Again, great job!

It's about .5 cubic feet. That's an estimate (I filled the area with the right volume of foam peanuts and estimate where to build the box).

Um, the plastic covers.. Heh. I haven't actually checked that yet, so I'm hoping I can get them to fit over it.

It's not held down, but it is such a snug fit by design, that it ain't moving, and the spare helps hold it.

Thanks a TON for the pics. And, btw, I would recommend sealing every hole. It will seal the door, and significantly increase midbass response and power handling.
