WOW I wanted to do something like that for my xbox however, I thought there was a limit to how long the IDE cable could be?? So how long is your IDE cable?

Boy if you only knew how much time and effort went into this one, I went back and forth on it. As you probably know the industry standard is 18" but the longest production IDE cable is 48". Unfortunately I needed something like 72" to put the Xbox in the back compartment. I actually found a company in Raleigh that makes custom lengths, I had them make me a 72" ide but the Xbox didn't see the drives. I tried a 48" cable and the Xbox still didn't see the drives but when I tried the 36" cables everything worked. 36 inches was just long enough to put the Xbox in the passenger side and still reach the dash. The 1st connection has to be the DVD ROM drive, it's weird. Xbox uses Cable Select but even when I tried Master & Slave and the appropriate jumpers it only worked one way. Sorry for the long answer when the short one was 36" but if you are planning on doing something similar I thought I would give you a heads up.

Thanks so much for the info.. Here is a little bit of info that I learned... I have two xboxes.. one for home and one for my car.. The one I have at home is an older V1.0 Xbox and I was able to do master-slave on it.. The newer one in my car I could not..

It's actually one cable with 3 IDE connections, there is only one slot on the Motherboard. The DVD rom drive will need to be the 1st connection, then the HD second using cable select.

Since a 36" cable is a production cable just pick up any 36 IDE cable, they should have all at least a total of 3 IDE connections (1 for the MB, and then 2 for your IDE drives)

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Wow, you've done an incredible job! I'm looking to buy an Xbox for my car in the next few months, but I'm still seeing how I want to install it. I never thought of relocating the DVD drive since I thought I'd upgrade the HD to hold rips of games and DVDs. So it's 36" from the empty space behind the driver seat to the dash?

Just curious, which part? The Sub box, the Xbox DVD ROM or the door speakers?

I wish, that would have required a 72" IDE cable which the Xbox didn't recognize the drives. A 36" cable was exactly long enough for mounting the Xbox in the passenger side area below the dash.

How do the mids in the door pods sound? I'm trying to decide if I want to build a set for my 6.5 Eurosport mids.

Are they completely sealed or do they vent to the stock speaker grill opening?

They sound awesome. They vent into the stock speaker grill openings, they were removed so the speaker would fit.
