S2K Engine Start Button install write-up
Yep, so did I. The only other place I would have liked is just to the right of the ignition, below the vent, just below where the dash curves down and forward, but to mount it there, you'd need a secondary box or something to mount it to in order to have the button facing straight out, rather than down. I just didn't want to mess with trying to fabricate and attach something like that.
I hope you like yours in the middle of that panel ok... when I started my car this morning, I checked that out and from where I sit, I'd be reaching right through the shifter to hit the button there, but maybe it's not a problem for you. I chose the left of the panel to make the button more driver oriented and so I'd have a clear path to reach it.

True. I'm pretty happy with where it's at, though.
That's the reason I wasn't so worried about doing the mod or screwing it up, since I knew if anything went wrong, I could just cover it up with the CF. I'm satisfied with the way it came out, though. Makes me grin every time I hit the button to start the car.
Hey, what did you end up doing with the starter wire? Tap it, cut it or switch it?

great write up however i still dont understand with the purpose of the start button. We still have to insert the key into the starter and then turn it to the III mode then press the button. Wouldnt it be easier to put it in the IV mode with just one more push? Arent we just adding more steps to start the car by moving out arm to a new location and pressing a button?
None the less i do like the push start.....

I'm done 2 hours total, only reason it took that long cause had to make the hole by hand. It's pretty much easy and thanks for the write up. I been itching to do this but didn't know how to do it.

You can avoid the pedal deal if you "tape down" the button under the clutch pedal on the floor area behind the pressed clutch

I had the below button in a previous car. My plan is to mount this where the coin tray is located just before the center console cubby. Very reliable and the mounting depth is alot shorter.

great write up...just finished doing the mod earlier today....some quick notes to add to your write up....the far right screw when undoing the steering wheel cover is waaaaayy the hell up there....i thought for a minute there wasnt one but there is....also...as you are wiring everything up by the steering wheel........and all of the sudden all your dash lights, gauges and stereo lights turn on and your car starts making a high pitched beep...don't freak out and start cursing like i did thinking you f'ed something up and cut the wrong wire ...just realize that you accidentally bumped your high beams on...
It's official Shifttronic Zs can do this too. Just finished a friend's car but the thing is mounting the button somewhere. It's really packed under the shifting panel but yea installation is the same.

Yeah, you need a bit longer screwdriver to get those screws, but nothing you shouldn't have it your toolbox. LOL on bumping the highbeams; I ws reading that like WTF?! until I got to the end.
The only thing keeping me from buying this button is the unfinished look it has with that gap on the curved console... Other than modeling clay, does anyone have any other suggestions as to what you could fill that area in with?
I'm thinking like a rubber hose with the same diameter, just cut to form around the gap..

When in the car, you almost can't tell that there's any gap on the console.
