Default Picked it up Friday

It finally came last Friday. First thoughts in point form.

In summary a very nice car. Bit disappointed with the performance though. Only has 600 on the clock so hope when it hits 3-4k it loosens up a bit.

Be patient with the performance. Although I only have 1000km on the clock, I am noticing an improvement in performance all the time. This is the tightest new car that I have ever experienced.

I agree the Bose sux. It is really very poor for a premium system.

Are you hammering it and you only have done 600kms????

Will be interesting to see with CAI, headers and exhaust how it responds.

It is still to new to "hammer" it, and do agree that the engine feels tight.

I have always followed the idea if it is broken in "too" gently then it will never drive near its potential. Take this with a grain of salt and don't flame me. I have been told this for years and have broken in all my cars in this way. Please understand that this does not mean that I rev it to 6 grand, drop the clutch and then play Mr Squiggle on the street.

I drive it, enjoy it, look after it and maybe later turbo it.

Yeah I would not puch it too hard for at least 1000kms and then drive it as you say for the next 500-1000kms.

Make sure you change the oil after first 1000kms.

I cant wait to get into it! I drove mine through Blue Mountains on the weekend to run her in.

Yeah I am already looking at a turbo kit!

I agree, change the engine oil ASAP. The service manual does not recommend a change until 5000k's.

I changed my engine oil at 400kms and was very surprised at how dirty it was. a lot of black sediment out of the oil filter, which is expected I suppose. I put mineral oil back in, and will look to change to Mobil1 at 5000kms.

Also changed my diff and gearbox oil at 1000kms to Castrol synthetic. Once again, quite a bit of sediment attached to both drain plugs. Without a doubt the gearbox is much smoother with the synthetic oil. The gearbox still feels a little "notchy" between 4th and 5th, but I'm sure this will improve with age. It really is excellent, and I just love cruising through the gears.

Overall the car outstanding. I just can't wait to drive it every day. I haven't experienced any of the bouncing probems or noisy ride as reported by others. Maybe we have been lucky in getting cars with some of the teething problems sorted out. The Z is a real attention grabber, which is a a sure sign that it is destined to become a shape of significance.

Back to the Bose. Gee it is poor. Absolutely no "substance" to it at all. Anaemic describes it for me. I will try and change out the sub and fit a sub amplifier. That may add a bit of grunt.

This is just another update on my Z....

After 2K on the clock... my driver seat starts to have a squeaking sound.... and also at the brake... it sqeals whenever I brake... I asked Nissan to check out it, but they told me that was the brake dust, once they cleaned it, it was gone.. but as soon as I jumped in the car and drove off, it came out again.... so I dont think that will be the brake problem... This also concerns me on the noise at the front end (inside the driver side front wheel arch)... if I brake HARD or turn hard, I can hear/ feel "a" knocking sound... I am not sure what is that or if there is something lose.. but I doubt that would be the case! I am trying to link the sqeal noise and this knocking noise together.... is it possible to be a faulty wheel bearing? or should I just wait until it has 5 grand on the clock? because I don't think Nissan can be able to re-produce that kind of knocking noise if they only drive it for 5 minutes or so... any suggestions? or should I wait until it is really noticable at any situation?

thanks for all the advices in advance!

    cheers,

    richie

ps.... Power wise.. well... it is nothing compare to my previous bmw m3.... but probably I am getting older now, so I don't really need that much HP anymore!

The squeel is classic brembo package that comes with the standard pads that are used. On my STi which used the same brakes it had the same noise.

Your only option is to change the pads and that will certainly sort the squeel out for you.

As for the knocking sound, you will need to isolate it and get it back to Nissan.

Even though my car is only a week old it seems perfect other than the left hand side window grease streak. My previous car shat a strut after 500kms!

Well Guys 3000k's no problems apart from a faultly passenger window switch ( being replace at 5000), brakes are good not a sqeal anywhere, no knocks its just great. I have the Bose set to -1 bass +3 treble volume on 15 - 20 doesn't sound to bad I've heard worst so I'll live with it and spend the coin on a titanium exhaust and maybe a CAI. I'm having the Nismo Aero Kit fitted today I'll will post pics later.

    MR RISK

I thought the same, Slow, but after 3000k it has freed up quite a bit, I had my first kill last night, guy in a new Ford XR6 though he would blow me away from a standing start, well while waiting for the lights to go green I turned off the VDC, I dropped the clutch at around 1600rpm and got a great hookup shifted at 6200rpm into second, a chirp from the rears I'm half a car up, rev out to 6200rpm again into third by this time I'm nearly two car lenghts in front backed off at 120km.

This car with the ECU mods, titanium/SS exhaust and CAI will be quite a quick car, plus great looks.

    Cool david! Nice race! hehehe.....

Nice to hear that you are going to get those nismo kits installed today! You will be the first nismo Z around! (do not count that official ZNISMO car from nissan)!

There is a bit of delay on my VS CF lip due to the custom clearance... but VS distributor asked me to go in today for installation yesterday!

Good news for both of us!

    cheers,

    Default Squeaky seat

I have noticed a couple of comments regarding squeaky seats - mine is driving me crazy after 400km's

I haven't noticed it on the faults page - has anyone resolved this, or does it go away naturally, and should the dealer fix it?

I have checked the workshop manual and it only talks about troubleshooting steps to resolve squeaky seats. Not much help though. My point is, if it is in the workshop manual then you would have to assume it is common.

There is a switch on the drivers door under where the adjuster switch for the side mirrors are

I only found out that it had the electronic folding mirrors when I went home on the first day. For me anyway it is a big deal and am very grateful that it is part of the package. + the **** factor

Just like a F111 cuts wind resistance and will increase top speed to 350km plus and the 0 - 100km is down to 3.5sec, it's just a flick of a switch.

I believe there has been a noted fix for the problem do a search on this forum someone posted that the swab adjustment was the cause of the squeak.

im a soon to be Z owner, and while anxiously awaiting the delivery of my car, im not at all impressed by these problems everyone is reporting......rattlying seats, squeeky brakes. At first i was merely pissed off that our cars missed out on xenons, a sunvisor with mirror and auto dipping mirror, but now these problems r making me uneasy and slightly doubtful.

My current car, an Alfa Romeo 156 Selespeed, has given me no such problems even after 3 years of ownership. The chassis is still super tight, no interior rattles despite the Eibach springs and super firm Koni shocks. I think Nissan may have shot themself in the foot with the price of the car.....the development money not stretching to standard durability issues.

Also ppl saying the cars slow. Admittedly the auto touring i was forced to drive as a demo was not blistering quick, but after reading the exuberant kill stories in other threads, high 13sec 1/4s, i was thinking the manual would bring more power???

Plz guys ease my worries, im really looking forward to the Z, but at the moment, im not 100% convinced.

Don't worry, the Z350 compared to the Alfa 156 you will be has happy has a pig in sh#t, I have not experience any of the problems to date, at 4500k's it is freeing up pulls real hard over 4000rpm right up to redline that's not to say there's nothing under 4000rpm, it just seems to thrive on the higher revs. I just love it and I'm sure you won't reget buying it !

    220 - 230kw are easily reachable with bolt-on mod's.

May the Zed Be with you!!
