Thumbs up Hi-Tech SS Exhaust

It's arrived today, Hi-Tech's SS exhaust will fit soon and eval the product. I hope to get a base line dyno before fitting and another after, let's hope the numbers are close to what they have quoted ( 14kw/ 20hp ). Now these exhaust will be availble in SS and titanium has I have mentioned in another post, prices are around $1100 for the SS and $1900 for the titanium these price are just approx for now.

Isn't it 14kw at the wheels (around 18kw flywheel)? Are you installing yourself or taking it to someone? I'm thinking of getting it shipped as well... let us know how it is!

It's claimed 14kw at the wheels but IMO that's a lot for just replacing the muffler. I'd be interested in seeing a before and after dyno run as well as impressions on sound, or if close to Sydney I wouldn't mind coming along to hear it for myself. I'd even help with the install, not that it's at all complicated.

Nice piece David!

Tell us how you feel after the exhaust..... generally it will be less torque at the lower rpm and high power at the higher rpm than the standard factory torque/power figures.... don't know if this kind of rule applies to our Z! Cannot wait to see the improvement!

cheers,

richie

ps. please tell us the exhaust notes compare to the standard one as well! Thanks

Thanks for the comments, I could'nt wait until next Wednesday to install the exhaust, thats the earliest I could book the dyno time. It took me about 1.5 hrs to fit last night, easy install, I could do it it half the time next time around, I plan to refit the std muffler a day before the dyno to return the car back to standard in order to get a base line run then refit and get another run, will post the charts.
Yes Lambros did say 14kw at the wheels and all I can say is that the bum dyno is feeling the difference wheather it's 14kw or 7kw Wednesday's dyno will give us the numbers, I notice the biggest difference in third, it's pulling so much harder!!
Sounds awesome, at idle there a lower rumble from outside the car just audible inside, step on the loud peddle and wow! it sounds great, sounds very Italian, Mazerati not at all ricey plus it meet EPA sound stanards. Weight of the Hi-Tech muffler is 14kg I will weight the std tonight, I think the new one feel about half the weight the titanium will be even better.

So far it's rates as a must mod, I will post more comments after a few more days of driving and the inital wow factor has subsided.

This is the most exciting post I've read in ages.
Not knowing where to begin with the mods, the exhaust system is always a great choice, but I do admit to being a little worried about the results, mostly low power gains and a farty sound.
I am really looking forward to seeing the dyno before/after stats.
Thanks David for the pics and the time spent posting your opinions.

Lambros from Hi Tech has done all the exhaust work on our 350Z race car.
We have just fitted a prototype titanium muffler that he made up for us & this will be used in the next round of the championship at Symonds Plains in Tasmania on the Anzac weekend.
The car has not been back on the dyno but we will do it after we return from Tassie & keep you posted

I'm a bit ignorant: is the advantage of titanium that it's a lighter material? Any other advantages?

Titanium is lighter and stronger than steel. Its only true advantage with an exhaust is its lightness.
