What do you guys think of the wheel spacers??
Can anyone tell me whether or not they are legal in australia please? I used to use them on my m3 because those wheels required to put in the supplied spacers from bmw dealership... that's why I keep on thinking that's kinda legal because dealer supplies them... but many people told me that they aren't legal at all! Any idea???
I am thinking about buying a set of spacers for my rear because the wheels stick in way too much in my opinion! It will look good if it is about 0.5 to 1 inch out at each side... before sitting on the guards. Any suggestion other than changing those beautiful wheels?
I found out a Z33 spacer supplier in Japan already.. it is called: Central 20.... here is the pic to their spacers:
Front: 15mm
Rear: 25mm

Rich they should be legal dude. When i picked up my Alfa, i was told they fitted 15mm spacers on all four rims, coz with my guard extensions, the wheels would have looked too far pushed in.....interestingly Zender actually supplied the spacers with the bodykit.
I agree, the Rays wheels do look pushed in....thats another reason y i prefer the standard 18s.....u can c the bolts on the sideskirts from certain angles.
Find out from an aftermarket rim dealer (donnellans or carshine) if they'll fit the spacers for u, u will find that the stud pattern on the Z is very popular and they'll prob have them already in stock.

Sorry to disappoint, but wheel spacers are not legal here.
I was informed by a few wheel manufacturers and wholesalers that they are not allowed to fit wheel spacers. This is one of the problems I was having when trying to find aftermarket wheels for my Z.
The problem is, is that we have a very specific offset on the Z and I was having difficulty in finding wheels in Australia that will suit that offsets.
So as I have been informed you can not add spacers here.
Hope someone can tell me different (as this will make my wheel choices alot easier.)

I'm not sure about other states but in NSW wheel spacers were (and I presume still are) illegal. Having said that it's not something that would be obvious so you'd be unlikely to be done for it. If you're really worried check with the local RTA.
I heard one of my friends said that as long as it is a "proper" spacer, such that it will not go lose when you take those wheels off, it should be legal.... So I presume that those spacers from Central 20 will be legal to use? because they need to be bolted on to the wheel hubs tightly because wheels can go on!
Well... we will have to find out more about this issue!

ps. Sam, wouldn't the stock 18" wheels stick more in because at the rear, it has 0.5" narrower than the Ray's width though.... or probably it is because of different offset?!

ur prob right rich, it could just be my eyes playing tricks on me. Then again it may be the offset, or the actual design of the wheel. The stock 18s have spokes that r right on the edge of the rim, the Rays' have a deep dish design.
Wheel spacers are illegal in general. BUT and this is a big but and open to interpretation. Wheel spacers that are not bolted to the hub or the wheel are definitely illegal. These are considered floating wheel spacers. The ones shown above are hub-centric wheel spacers and also bolt to the hub which becomes one piece. You should be able to get them engineered with these.
DO NOT EVER FIT SPACERS THAT ARE NOT HUB CENTRIC.
You will notice the car will "shimmy" when driving as the there is no locating ring for the wheel hub. The wheel will never bolt centrally to the hub.
Another company that is highly regarded in making these are H&R

All Z owners,
a friend of mine works for NRMA/RAVC in Sydney Head office. He had seen countless claims rejected for whatever reasons.
He told me that if you had spacers or any mods on the car (except for some aftermarket wheels - legal size) when you're involved in an accident....say goodbye to your insurance claim.
They are cracking down!!! This is your warning!!!

Well... about your "taiwanese crap" impression, I do not agree with you entirely because some taiwanese companies do make wheels for all sorts of big brand wheel manufacturers, even the OEMs... So no all of them are crap. You just have to watch out when you buy those wheels, don't trust all the jap brands as well!
I still don't get it why those Japanese car big tuners (including nismo) still use fibre glass as the body kits material while a lot of copy kits from taiwan already use "PU" (plastic) material already with perfect fitment as well.... so which one would you prefer, go figure!

Some manufacturers want to save on weight and cost. Unlike some German tuners its all quality (very high standards)
I agree that taiwanese companies do produce some good products. Most of them are one piece wheels. Japanese wheels have 1,2 and 3 piece configuration to allow for many different offsets (No spacers needed) plus countless models/brand to choose from.
What wheels have you been looking at and how much?

hello buttnaked,
I am not currently looking at any wheel at the moment because I have already paid nearly 4K for the Ray's wheels from nissan dealer... I just found that the rear wheels stick it a bit and doesn't look as nice, therefore I was looking for the alternative answer than changing my wheels... but I think the spacer just won't work due to the law issue, so I will just stick with the Ray's because I still like the style quite a lot!
cheers and thanks for the help man!
