Just thought I would post some great info on the progress of the 350Z exhaust development.

First step was I took the car to a dynojet dyno and got an initial run completed.

From here I have had Hi Tech fit a prototype muffler on the car and I have had the car back onto the same dyno, the same time of day, same weather and the gain was 14kW at the wheels!!!

Now to the ECU. We wanted to see if this talk of the ECU making changes after modification is true or if our cars in OZ may be different.

I drove the car for two weeks and covered about 500kms of varied driving and we have found no change. We actually made the full 14kW increase after the two week and 500km drive in!

All I have to say is Lambros and the guys at HiTech are doing some awesome work and are very professional in the development of the system. Its always a good sign of a great operator when they let you take the car to be dyno'd and have nothing to do with that process.

We are now working on more additions and I will keep everyone up to date. Oh and the car feels awesome!

Sounds promising. Certainly a better result than the 5kw ZZZ-35 saw. I wonder what they changed?

 

Yeah I will be speaking to David and hopefully he can retest the car.

New changes have now also been made. Car is VERY strong in the mid range right through to redline so the new addition has added a lot of torque.

Dyno in the morning - want to make sure its all done same time etc to try and baseline as best possible.

I'm still skeptical.
What drastic modifications can be done to a muffler to go from 5 to 14 kw ?
Does it sound farty?

 

How can you be skeptical, same dyno all the way through and the muffler manufacturer had nothing to do with it....???

The only difference is Dave drove around with the muffler for a couple of weeks, changed to the stock and dyno'd straight away and then swapped it back. The ECU would not have been in the same state as if he was driving for sometime with the factory system.

As for the sound it is bloody fantastic. I dont like over the top or ******** sound. Its not very loud and the best is no drone or anything. Its got a nice throaty, somewhat european car sound.

 

Nathan did say they got a 14kw increase with their exhaust.

Mike, just out of interest the dyno you're using, is it one you picked or was it recommended by Hi-Tech?

 

Exactly ! Its basically nearly the same figures as Nathan.

I took the car to the Dyno. HiTech know the people that run the shop but not sure what that has to do with anything.

Help, how much is 14kW, in Hp and Tq?

 

Personally I'd like something like this on my car.
You cant beat a good set of headers for a free reving engine like the VQ.

 

nismor33, that does sound impressive. Are you at all concerned with warranty issues, not to mention insurance issues as they won't cover you if you mod the car?
Perhaps you know a good mechanic who can do log book services (not to mention quick exhaust change overs if necessary - know what I mean).

Probably nothing, I'm just a naturally suspicious person and if it were my car I would've prefered to see results from a totally neutral dyno. I'm not saying the results are wrong or anything shady is going on, just expressing my preferences.

 

Blue 350Z I definately would love some great headers. I will buy something that has been developed and proven. I dont think I want to spend any time working that out as so many people end up reducing power from what I have read.

Warranty issues.....yeah that bothers me, though I dont think the exhaust will do too much to damage anything. Lets hope

The Y-Pipe design did not produce as much as expected. We got 4kW at the wheels in total. The big advantage was mid range torque which is spiked up.

The car is totally different to drive. Very strong in the mid range right through and revs a lot smoother.

So was that 14kw with the Y pipe as well as the muffler or just the muffler alone?

A nice gain!! it's a fantastic gain 18rwkw thats 24rwhp in USA terms, better than all the US systems ie Bora, Stillen and this system is still to add hi-flow Cats. I know I only got 6rwkw with just the muffler plus it was an early version then add the fact that I drove with it on for two weeks before the dyno, I still think its a great mod even if you gained only 6rwkw ok 5.5rwkw the bonus is it sound it's awesome.

I will re-test the car soon then add the Y-Pipe and then dyno against just to get more data, ie two cars testing and different dyno's.
