Default Mobile In Car Kits

I have been waiting for my car kit installer to get the 350Z clip on console bracket. There is one on the market that does not damage the car. I will post details when he installs it.

Has anyone had a kit installed ? And does the BOSE unit have a mute facility ?

Im not sure if its the same thing but..........

I went to my local installer a while back and asked them to put in a bracket that sits in behind the stereo HU so you cant see any screws.

The only problem with it was there wasnt enough room for it to fit in between the console and the stereo HU without filing some of the console.

I just made up a SS bracket that I screwed (with one shitty looking screw) into the DVD screen hole, with the door closed (which mine always is) you cant even see the bracket.

I have attached a couple of photos. Sorry to Hijack I have also included one of how the should have made the front for Aus IMO

My suggestion is to buy a phone with bluetooth functionality. Then buy the car kit.

i.e. sony ericsson T610 plus Sony ericsson HCB-30 carkit.

You don't need phone holder brackets at all.

I bought my nokia 8910i and it came with a free blue tooth car kit. Approx $500 value. Don't know if the deal is still on though.

Personally I turn my phone off if I'm driving unless I'm expecting a call or need to make a call and the I use an earpiece.

The problem I have with most car kit cradles is that they'll only fit a certain phone. If you need to replace the phone you then need to replace the cradle which may mean a new bracket and more holes.

Bluetooth is a nice solution even without the car kit. One of my clients has a bluetooth phone (T68i IIRC) and the bluetooth earpiece which works very well.

I have Nokia 8250 kits in all our company vehicles (4 private cars as well), that way we all can jump in any of the cars with no problems. I have just been informed my "special" 350Z mounting bracket will be fitted next Wednesday. I will post pics asap.

The bracket finally arrived. It clips in around joins in console. Very neat.

Now with the phone cradle.

The Bose required a relay for muting. If you disable keypad tones (Nokia's), the radio does not "Mute" untill you send.

I just got a Sony Ericsson Bluetooth kit and am thinking of a self install. Where does the mute relay attach ?
I have also heard that the relay resets the memory of the radio stations each time it cuts power, which would be a pain.
Is this how yours works?

Blue_350_z

We just interupted the 12vdc power supply to the Bose via the relay contacts. I don't lose the pre-sets when muting occurs?

Thanks for clearing that up
Not sure if it would be the same on my kit as it has an "Advanced Music Mute " feature which is suposed to mute the bose and let me hear the caller through factory speakers.
I'll post my findings if I get time to install this weekend.

cheers

The antenna is one that does not require any external elements. Just adheres to inside of glass.

Well here's a tip for anyone wanting a Bluetooth car kit.
As MMS50L said the Bose will require a relay to mute the sound when a call comes through.
But wait. There's a little more to it.
I purchased a Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Car Kit HCB-30 which allows you to have your mobile anywhere in the car, pocket, bag, glove box ...
In other words no cradle. So you can just jump in the car and not worry where the phone is.
I also purchased the Advanced Music Mute cable which CANNOT be used in our cars with the Bose because it has no mute at all.
When a relay is used to "mute" the Bose it actually cuts the power thus no sound can be be heard from the speakers.
So my point is, dont spend the extra cash on Sony Ericsson Music Mute Cable HCE-16

Hope this helps someone out.

You can mute the Bose stereo.
You just need to tap in to some of the wires on connector M39.
They are the same wires that the navigation ystem uses to attenuate the stereo so that it can speak.
I have not tried this yet myself, but I plan to get rid of my Bose sometime soon anyway.

I have more info on the bose stereo's wiring pinout at:
