Default Has anyone had gearbox problems?

Mine is just starting to show a slight problem - 2 & 3 are a bit crunchy and 5 is not too brilliant either. I'm at about 13000 kms so I will wait a bit before I start battling with Nissan.

Chris, mine have always been "tight", especially 1 - 2nd and into 6th (not often used though).

By tight, I mean it is "notchy" I suppose. Not sure if this comes standard with Nissan as I've never owned one before.

As always

Yes that describes it - I guess the main problem is when I want to do a quick overtake and the gears refuse to change as fast as I want....maybe I'm expecting too much.

Same thing here...it feels like the clutch assembly to me though!

It doesn't want to go into gear in one motion in first...Well it lets you do it but it takes some work.

Thats true - I think you may have something re the clutch. Can it be altered to take up at a higher point?

You can put me down to for a bad gearbox. I was going to start a thread asking if anyone else has similar problems but have not had time.

I started to get locked out of fifth gear when changing quickly. That problem soon worsened when it would go through the gate intop fifth, but it would grind. Now I have started to get other gears grinding and am getting really annoyed.

I went to speak to the dealer and ended up having them replace the transmission fluid, but to no avail. I am meant to take it back to the dealer for another round of problem solving.

There is another thread in the rest of the forums discussing those that have had gearbox replaced. I am not sure if this is the same problem that I am experiencing, but hopefully it will soon be cleared up.

my gear box is operating alright, just sometimes it is a bit notchy from 2nd to 3rd... It makes me feel that I cannot be able to find the 3rd gear and will really need to jam the gear in if I want the 3rd... other gears are fine and just feel the gear grinding/syncro when I swap from 3rd to 2nd for a few times (when I am actually slowing down already, not at the high speed)....

cheers,

richie

Yep, mine too, it seems to be endemic to the car. The 1st-2nd switch can be a b*itch sometimes, especially if you don't get that clutch pedal clear to the floor. I've found that the higher the revs the cleaner it seems to change. Of course the cold early morning has me changing gears with finger tip gentleness until it warms up. It saves on the embarrasment factor that way when you light up on a green signal and CRUNCH! 'Farg-it-all-to-hell! Where did second gear go too?' When that happens there is no seat deep enough to sink lower or road clear enough to get away from those who heard your little mishap. It usually happens next to a loaded bus-stop in my experience.
I think the secret is steering the shifter into gear rather than shoving it.

I'll add my vote to the poor 1 - 2 shift. At first I put it down to being new but now with ~10k km on it there's no difference. Does seem better once warmed up and when shifting with a few more revs.

My 1-2nd gear change is marginally tighter than the other gears, but no real problem. BTW, I have about 12000km on the car. I've missed 2nd gear once when I was accelerating hard from 1st, but that was my fault as I pulled the lever between 2nd and 4th. Every other time I chirp the rears on a fast gear change between 1 and 2 and thats with TC on!!! So i reckon my gerabox is fine. I have also experienced a slight gear grind a couple of times, but again that was me letting the clutch out a little early. Oh, I rearly push the clutch all the way to the floor, about 3/4 of the way down gets the job done.

Hey all.. recently ive noticed if i dont get the clutch ALL the way down on a2-3 change, it grinds.. if i change from 4th to 5th quickly (even if the clutch is ALL the way down) it grinds.. had the dealer check it at servicing, but they couldnt fault it... need to get them to check the whole thing over... ive got about 15000ks on it now
