not sure yet how much to install flywheel, hope its not too much..
as harryw said, its lightweight crank pully, was told it more efficient in transfering power, up a few hp to the rw

I expected it to take a lot longer. Thats why I've stayed away from the flywheel mod.
I wanted to also ask you about those cams you got...did you mill them yet? Is there anything out of all that that we could get installed on our street cars?

Correct Peter here, I forget to change the log in when I,m at work & its been that long since I used my own sig I have forgotten my password ( 1st stage of alzhimers).
I have done nothing yet with the cams & heads I showed you as we are as yet not permitted to use them in GTP racing.
I will be applying for a parity upgrade but untill that is granted nothing can be done.
See the main forum for some insight into these new Nismo parts that are to be released in the US.
To be released in Japan soon is a new nismo S1 kit. Cams, sprokets, MAF sensor, ECU, Ect. But will Nissan Aust release it here? Who knows

Slower speed = less horsepower to drive these components.
The trade off is sometimes hard steering at idle, but the Z does not appear to have this problem
If that's true I'd be reluctant to use one. With the MX-5 we found on the big horsepower cars that almost every one of them running an under drive pulley shattered the oil pump whereas there were no failures on cars not running the pulley. Not conclusive but enough for me to stay away from them.

On the 350Z motor the oil pump is driven by the front of the crankshaft & the water pump is internal & driven by the camshaft chain.
Changeing the crank pully has no effect on the speed of the oil & water pump, only the acc,s driven by the serpentine belt.
I dont have a workshop manual but I would have thought the MX5's oil pump would not be driven by external pullys

The oil pump isn't driven by the pulley but rather by the crank. It was thought that the lack of a harmonic balancer caused a resonance which was the real cause of the failure but it was the pulley that was the cause of the lack of balancer so...
There were at least 6 of these failures that I know of. As I said not conclusive but not to be ignored either when it's out of a group of about 50 cars. It was a 100% failure rate for those cars with them installed.
I wish I still had the pics. When I said shattered I meant it literally.
It may not be the case with the 350Z but only time will really tell and it could be an expensive lesson to learn for such a tiny gain.

With a failure rate like that I would not use one on any motor that uses the front crank pully as a harmonic balancer.
In the case of the Z the front pully is not a true harmonic balancer as there is no rubber separating the outer section from the centre hub.
Correction
Just had a closer look at the stock crank pully & when you look at it from the front it looks like a solid pully, but when you look at the back side there is a small insert of rubber.
They would not have put that ther for nothing.
Anyhow we can't use them in GTP & as you said any gains would be miniscule

Just want to reiterate from my original post that this issue was only seen on big horsepower cars ie turbo conversions. There were a few on NA cars that hadn't failed (AFAIK).
For me it's enough though that I'll never use an underdrive jsut in case.
