Otto any chance I can come check out your car?

I'm interested in the flywheel but i'd rather see it in action before putting down the hard cash.

I cant really tell now if its any diff to standard, I live with the car everyday and I got used to it already, except one thing tho.... the flywheel noise is so fxxking annoying is not funny, especially in slow traffic (city driving) where you hv to drive slow, when you going thur a set of lights turning, the car rattles like things are falling apart under the car, if im the pedestrian I would definitely think theres something wrong with the car, its so loud I can hear it even windows are up, I kinda regret changing the flywheel now

Probably that is due to too much of weight reduction on the flywheel? recalled that the JWT one is 14lbs only though. I hope my nismo flywheel will not make too much noise as all other people said (very minimum) since it weights 26lbs.

cheers,

richie

richie, the flywheel noise in not caused by the weight reduction, but the absence of any damping material on the flywheel itself. the OE flywheel is 2 piece construction with rubber between the 2 pieces to cut down the vibration. the aftermarket ones is a single piece with NO damping at all.
no matter which aftermarket flywheel you choose they will make a noise as all of them are single piece

btw, may I ask you what makes you choose the nismo flywheel?
the standard flywheel is 28lbs, vs 26lbs on the nismo.
you saved less than 10% on weight but introduce more vibration to the drivetrain...

just checked performancenissan.com, the nismo flywheel is 23lbs, but the OE flywheel is 28lbs not 31lbs (weight by one of forum member "Fly by Z". so saving of 5lbs, roughtly 18% over stock

OTT: because I will still have the factory warranty if I use the Nismo product! I asked my dealer already, they will continue my factory warranty ONLY if I use nismo flywheel instead of other brands.

BTW... Jason at performance nissan told me that the JWT flywheel is actually louder than the nismo one, and this is what Jason said about the nismo flywheel:

it is not very loud at all... but noticible... but after you expereince the new flywheel you will not even think about it... plus... alot of peoples stock flywheel makes the same sound.

So I am not too sure what kinda noise is there actually, but as I mentioned before, when I let go the clutch at idle, my gearbox noise or when the clutch is engaged is super loud as well, that's why it makes me think the noise might not be that much different.

BTW, can you describe what type of noise is that "chattering" sound?

thanks in advance!

richie

BTW.... Jason said that the noise level is:

Tilton > JWT > Nismo.... so that's why I "predicted" it was related to the weight of the flywheel....

Tilton: 8 lbs
JWT: 14 lbs
Nismo: 23 lbs

cheers,

richie

imagine a loose exhaust hitting the body work (ie. metal against metal)
thats as close as I could think of describing the "sound"

maybe Jason is right, coz I've no experience with the NISMO flywheel, but for me, the gain you get from the from it versus the cost just wont do it for me, the cost of putting the flywheel in is not cheap, the whole tranny needs to come out, takes 4hrs (? ask Peter) last time Nathan/Peter quote me. you wont get too much change from $1000 with this mod, and only saving less than 20% weight on the flywheel.... not good improvment/value in my book.... but thats just me

anyway... good luck with your flywheel, hope it doesnt make so much noise as mine

Any noise like this is bad. Theres nothing performance about the noise.

A lope @ idle from cams, now thats a performance noise!

Otto, some of the guys in the US state that the JWT flywheel produces little to no noise. Can it be an install issue?

Hey ottonove, I've got this exact sound coming out from under my car too. It's very loud sometimes but only at idle or low revs. Took the car in for a service a few weeks ago and they couldn't find where it was coming from - they still want to have another look when they have more time. I wonder if the auto could have a similar problem?
Sounds exactly how you described. I thought I might have damaged an exhaust bracket or something when I was driving out to a friends farm on an unsealed road recently but the nice people at Gary Rogers said the exhast wasn't moving. They even thought it might be an internal exhaust problem.
Must get the car back to them soon for another look.
