Post if you have tyre feathering
Hey guys,
Long time no post...been travelling heaps for work.
A friend of mine Melbourne unfortunately has tyre feathering at about 20,000kms. He has a VERY loud tyre road noise and took it into Nissan were they said he has tyre scalloping.
Nissan is so pathetic they told him it was his fault for breaking hard!?!?!? Its an auto that gets serviced every 5000kms, so how they decided now that he breaks too hard is beyond me.
Anyway they are now waiting for Nissan Australia, apparantly they are looking into quite a few 350s that are having this problem.
Just wondering if anyone is having problems with your tyres? Touch wood mine is fine but good luck to everyone if you get it because again Nissan has no interest.

The funny part with all the tyre problems is that I don't think I have ever had a performance tyre last much beyond the 20-25k mark. This is the privelege you pay for performance.

Mine has 9,500kms and its got no issues at all.
We all have the Track model right? His is the Touring....just wondering.
What concerns me is apparantly Nissan has a large number of cars logged with problems.
Good to hear though that on this list so far so good!

Good to hear from you again, I've got 23,000k up and I have had the feathering prob from about 17,000k (it's a Track model) and once your tyres are rooted it's either wait till they wear out or change them now I've choosen to put up with the road roar and wear them out quickly I've have the aligment done twice the second time after installing the S-Tune Suspension. I'll probally get the 18" Nismo LM GT4 rims when I replace the tyres.
P.S. I did get the tyres rotated (demounted from rims) this helped reduce the roar. ( I HATE NISSHIT).

I've just put a new set of rims on my track and it was the first chance that I've had to really check out the "feathering" of the tyres - up until now they've been noisy but I didn't think that there was much wear. The inside shoulders in particular are particularly chopped up. Now, I'm pretty easy on tyres - even when I was racing my tyre wear was very low so this has surprised me. It is not unusual to get similar wear patterns on trucks when there are suspension problems and it leads me to think that there are issues with at least the early Zs into Oz. Mine has done 21,000 km and is just coming up for its first birthday. I don't expect high performance tyres to last forever but these ones are now virtually stuffed and that can't be right.
I reckon that I'll be jumping onto Apsilon's letter to Nissan.
Not too happy about this like all the rest of you that have the problem.

There's a safety issue here also - as the tyres feather they lose their cornering and stopping performance.
How about we get RACV, NRMA, etc to do reports as evidence?
Also, I don't know if ACCC would be interested in the tyre/gearboxes problems. Aren't they to do with Corporation misbehaviour?
I think Consumer affairs is the best forum - how can Nisshit win -
They have acknowledged the problem - TSB is evidence
They have precedence by replacing/fixing in USA
They won't want to send a senior technician to a capital city for
a day for an adjudication - that's expensive - especially if they have to do it 50 times!
They'l like it even less if someone crashes and investigation points to tyre/suspension suspicions/ faults
Adverse publicity is their greatest fear - a couple of successful Consumer Affairs escapades and then the motoring fraternity will really take notice
And how about handouts stating our case at the car shows - I'm a printer - I'll do 20,000 full colour professionally designed bruchures in very quick time!
If we really want to, we can bring Nisshit to the bargaining table real fast, and have a load of fun in the meantime!

I'll take another look at my tyres tomorrow. I've never looked into the feathering issue much as I've never seen any evidence of it on my car so excuse me for these basic questions. Is it limited to the inside edge? Is it front only and/or rear?

FWIW I just checked my tyres again and still have no signs of feathering, just good even wear. I only have 11k km on the clock though and as some people are saying they're not seeing it until 17k+ km I guess I'm not in the clear yet.
Here's a question. The assumption is the feathering is being caused by bad alignment/geometry correct? If that's so why does it not show up until, in some cases, 17k km? In my experience a bad alignment will show abnormal wear in as little as a few hundred km. Why si this case different?
