Default Tim Winton

I just returned from a week on vacation in the Mexican Caribbean. I waited until the last minute and wasn't able to get to the bookstore so I grabbed a couple of books from my son's college literature class. One was 'cloudstreet' by Tim Winton.

The story totally took over my thoughts--his observations of small things and the struggle to find the meaning as the world passes on by...I was raised in rural Northern Michigan and recall being a child post-WWII so the themes were familiar. I've been gone a long time but memories of people are similar to those that winton writes about--their reactions and gritty philosophy.

I'm wondering how Australians regard him. I tried the local bookstores but they basically draw a blank on the other five novels.

Tim Winton is well regarded here in Australia. He has won several major writing awards.
I personally have not read any of his books. My fiance has and she does not like his style of writing.
You can probably order his books from the Aussie bookstores that have an online sales site.
Try www.kinokuniya.com or www.dymocks.com.au or www.angusrobertson.com.au or www.collinsbooks.com.au

What's this term "books" you refer to?

Do you mean things like Motor, Wheels, Aust Motorcycle News et al?

As always

Books, an old form of storing text in the form of physical print on paper. Difficult to edit and backup.

FWIW I don't think I've heard of Tim Winton either. When I saw the title the first thing I thought of was Winton raceway.

Thanks KY350:
I went to another bookstore today and there they were. That Eye the Sky; Riders; Dirt Music. He's famous and has written many novels. He's 40 and his home is in Perth.

He has a stacatto style of writing which appeals to me I guess. Inanimate objects have souls and breathe.
