Default Single Turbo Setup

I can’t find one yet, but providing there is one...

I know that 'generally' a twin turbo setup is better than a single turbo because it enables you to use smaller turbos which spool up quicker, reducing turbo lag and giving you good low-to-mid range power and a smooth power curve. But in the scenario of a 350z + single turbo, the zed has quite a large engine to start with so I don’t think off-boost performance should be a worry? Or is it the case that because all the exhaust has to run through one smaller diameter pipe when it goes through the turbo, that this bottle neck would throttle our cars off boost performance?

If this isn’t the case then what are the possible downsides to running a single turbo setup over a twin in our zeds?

P.S.
I’m asking these questions because of the cost factor involved with the twin-turbo setups, and logic tells me one would be cheaper than two.

Top Secret has one. I don't see it as a problem. It doesn't have the potential that a twin has but it'd still be nice.

Know where any details on it are? I did a few searches etc but couldnt find any reference of it...

It would have more potential than a normal supercharger, depending on the type of turbo of course. If it can get me near 450hp im happy. Of course insurance would be another story all together so lets just ignore that for the moment.

The Dreamworkes supercharger stands to be a good mod, with 400 hp @ crank in standard form with the potential for 600hp with modified internals. But the possible stress on the engine all the time would be the determining factor here.

APS TT = $12,000
PE TT = $10,000
Dreamworkes Supercharger = $8000
TS Single Turbo = ??

Not really. You could try contacting Bullet Proof as they're claiming to be the world wide distributor for all markets outside of Japan now.

You could also contact Harry at http://www.hioctaneracing.com.au and he'll contact Top Secret directly.

IMO that TS price is too cheap to be a complete kit.

Yeah I think your right Matt, so add a couple more grand to that price.

I couldnt find the Apexi one on their site yet, but most people take ages to update their sites anyways.

With a single turbo setup, there are heaps of things you could do to get heaps of power out of the engine. Most of the NA mods can be used in conjunction with the turbo to get large gains as well. Like Cams, Intake Manifold, Hi Flow Cats, Exhaust, etc etc but the gains would be so much better.(Granted the type of cam and intake manifold chosen would be slightly different for turbo applications.)

The turbo mentioned in the image is a GT-30 Pro Turbo, Im trying to find some specs on it.

http://forums.skylinesdownunder.co.n...c/30718-1.html

I dont know if thats a simliar turbo that SyndeyKid is talking about or not, but on a RB25 it ran 11.9@120mph. With some mods it was putting out 300rwkw or 400rwhp from a 2.5L. Garrett GT3040? Wonder how different it is?

APS TT = $12,000
PE TT = $10,000
Dreamworkes Supercharger = $8000
TS Single Turbo = ~$5000 (Probally missing required parts.)
Cams, Exhaust, Pulley, Air, Headers = $6577 Installed for 50hp with no potential for more.

BTW what happened to being happy with the amount of stock power and maybe just an exhaust?

If you start down that path you'll soon see it has no end. You always end up wanting just a bit more.

Nothing has happened, I am happy with the stock power levels and I will get an exhaust for the moment but there is no end for me no matter which path I continue down. These things consume my thoughts day in and day out.

I will continue to review the different options as would others, its just that money and potential power weigh strongly into my decisions and a single turbo seems to be the best option with that in mind. Its all hypothetical without insurance anyway so if you get a chance please do ask shanons if they would insure a turbo Zed.

Although previously 'potential power' didnt seem to weigh into my decisions... I think because the cost factor involved in getting to just NA 200rwkw with zero potential is very similar to getting to Turbo 250rwkw with the potential for alot more.

So I think everything boils down to money and what you get for your money...

Yeah but they're a bit different

After looking at the Greddy full parts list from the installation manual, I dont think creating a custom setup using this TS turbo etc would be worth it unless it was a full kit. The Greddy kit has oil lines etc going all over the place, It would be alot of work to custom make all that. But I guess we dont know exactly comes with the TS one, though I doubt it would be every little bit required.

Can I ask where that price is from? Have you been able to obtain any more details on what's in the kit?
