Quiktrak alternatives?
Just wondering if anyone knows of, or more importantly has personal experience with a monitored alarm provider other than Quiktrak. I figure they won't be around much longer so may as well start looking for an alternative now.
Comments on other alarm system also welcome.

Well CarCom from NRMA is the other one.
I have the unit I used in my STi sitting in a box in the garage. Never fitted it because i could not bare hacking into the car. Also at the moment I am not in the country long enough to even justify keeping the Zed let alone the carcom!!!
Cost me $2300 to get it going...open to all offers!
Mike.

Only because they have changed manufacturer and they will be shipping a smaller, less power consuming unit.
All existing units are still supported.
Service was very good but just being lazy never refitted. Cost me $90 to fit if I want to set it up again.

More light in what sense?
Right now it's a waiting game. Either they'll recover and continue under new mamangement or the whol system will go poof and we'll be left with a nice paper weight.
As I said I think it's a good product so hopefully it'll survive.

I was hoping maybe there was a rumour that there was a buyer to buy out QT debt and save the company.
It will be interesting though if it crumbles as I could not insure my car without QT.

I certainly hope they stay around but I want to know what my options are as well. Paid almost $2k for it to be installed last year and just renewed for another year at ~$300.
Carcom looks like a viable alternative (possibly even superior given they use radio and GPS) but here's hoping QT survives.

There is a new (I think) system that uses the mobile phone GSM network and sattelite tracking to position your car. You can dial into you car and it can send you the latitude and longitudal co-ords of the car. It can also log when the car has been over a given journey - handy when lending the car to your younger bro to "go down the road". Seems pretty cool. Speaking with Novatronics in Melbourne about it so I can get the skinny.
You can opt for a completely monitored system, or go for a bare bones system where you can prompt the car for it's location. Anyone familiar with this system? I am thinking about having it fitted to my GTR as I am required to get tracking on the car by the insurance company. Since QuikTrak ain't no more, there are very few options out there.

Not that exact system. The novatronics one seems better from the few details I read on the site, but the theories are the same.
In regards to requiring a monitored system, I have had a whole bunch of crap dealing with this issue because quiktrack was closing down. My company said I must have tracking to be covered for theft. They did not even know that quiktrack was under administration. Anyways, long story short, after all the to-ing and fro-ing, the conlusion was if the car is stolen, they need to be able to recover the car. The car does not need to be monitored 24 hrs by a company...took a while to get to this conclusion though.
