Default Resetting The Ecu

Why do you want to do this? It's a very involved procedure of "press this, wait4 seconds, twiddle that, wait 10seconds - and so-on.

Got it from:

It's not that bad... if you see it on the visual time line chart in the Nissan manual it's pretty simple.

I've tried it and it just didn't work! Maybe timing has to be perfect. I'm pretty sure Peter P told me he never got it to work either, he just disconnects the neg terminal of the battery for 24hrs.

or you can disconnect both battery terminals and touch them together for about 10-15 seconds and wipe out all the memory that way.

I know what you mean but just to clarify you touch the leads together, not the terminals. Shorting the terminals would be bad.

shorting the terminals would screw up the battery bigtime!

I tried it when i was a teenager on my Falcon.. ...what can i say it started to smoke and make popping sounds. **** we do for fun as kids!

It's the first i've heard of shorting the leads though. In fact from what i can tell it shouldn't work since the ECU carries it's own trickle supply.

It should work although it's probably quicker to turn the key to acc and press the brakes. Then again with the level of electrickery in this car that may not do anything.

I've reset the ECU according to the manual - timing really is critical - you should use a watch with a second hand.

Cheers,

Neil

But as Frozzle said, why do you want to reset the ECU?

It seems to net a few KW for a short period of time!

I'd do it if I had a mod that changed the AF ratio a bit. I'd want the ECU to learn from scratch.

In the end it's mostly speculation but we do know from Technosquare that the ECU does always try and bring the settings back to as close to factory as possible.

It's usually done to get a few more HP adding mods like CAI, grounding kits, exhaust etc. Your ECU eventually "relearns" and goes back to it's old settings but supposedly you get some extra power for a little while.

I did it when I had my AEM CAI and Borla exhaust and it seemed to work pretty well.
