Default Tyres (Again)

Hello Everyone,

I know we've had a couple of threads already on tyres but I need some advice.

I am looking at getting the SO3's or the Yokohama AVS V102's.

Both come in 245x45x18 and both are about the same cost.

I have never used Yoko's on any vehicle so I am after advice.

I am more concerned with tread life rather than out and out grip or handling performance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As always

H

Are you getting your tires in australia or do you want to import them?

I'm getting my Michelin Pilot Sports - 265/40-18 for US$270 each, the shipping will be US$270 for all 4. They are going to be declared at US$400, so you would be looking at duty+gst of around US$120 on top of that. So for me it works out around AU$500 per tire. If I got them in australia it would cost me around $800 per tire.

If any one is interested let me know, just give me the tire specs and I'll find out the price for you. Check the prices on onlinetires.com, tiresdirec.com and tires.com find the best price and I'll see if my contact can match them.

I guess for you it isn't worth it.
Where are you getting your tires? I'll get some quotes from them as well. All the larger sizes in australia cost arm and a leg. I've no idea why.

Nuff - are the 265's ok on the Track rims?

I might do a groupie with you?

What about circumfrence? don't want to loose gearing in case Harry comes by again. (This time I'll make sure there's no turnoffs so he can pike out)!

265s wouldnt fit on the track wheels, as a reference the S03 265 wont even fit on a 8.5" rim and the track wheels are narrower again.

harryw

For my new LM4-GT rims I've decided to go with the Yokohama AVS 102 in 245/40-18 93Y (91W req. spec.) for the fronts and 275/40-18 99Y (96W req. spec.) for the rears, at lest they fit the load and speed ratings for the car. My prices have been $460 fronts and $560 rears but I'm still looking around for a better price. A very close friend has these tyres fitted to is RS Liberty, weights around 1400kg so close to the same weight as the Zed and rates them very highly better than the SO3's, by the way he works for one of the TyrePower outlets here in Melbourne.

Thanks for the help guys!

Nuff, Im just getting them from a local shop. You should check the price of the Pilot Sports again, I think I got quoted around the $600 mark. Still save a bit importing them yourself though.

Shizzle, the widest you can put on is a 255 (I believe). Im still looking at that size as well.

It also depends on which exact tyre your getting, if it has harder sidewalls then a 255 wouldnt be possible.

Frosty, if you want the Toyo Proxes, it might be worth importing them. Imported it would cost you around AU$1440-1500, depending on the exchange rate. That's for 245/45-18 on all 4 conners. I'm not sure if you want to go with that setup or not. From what I recall you had tire feathering as well, so it might be good idea getting same sized tires.

Harry, I have found the tread life on the SO3's very good ... but if they came in the sizes I needed would have gone with the AVS on past experience for grip and handling.

Harry, has been a few years since I had the AVS and that was on a 200SX but they did seem to wear reasonably well - but sorry couldn't exactly say compared to the SO3.

My experience with Yokos was they gave the most incredable grip - wore out in under 10,000 ks.....but then i do drive hard. Very hard.
