hey guys,
i need a car audio buff to help ...
i have played with everything again and its all set...
i have new system,
new HU
x 2 amps
new speakers
new sub
problems ...............
1) when volume is off, i can hear quietly thru sub. radio station 93.7 nova .. very weird .
2) my stereo pops when i turn it off
3) when i accellerate and stereo volume is 0 the car engine noise is running thru the speakers ..
i played for hours fixing the ground to fix the engine noise ..
it only happens when the amps are turned up high ..
the radio thru the sub (bad connection) i dont see how, but maybe ?
and the popping .... too much power ?
im not sure , a capacitor gives power, but does it smoothly slow the power down to stop this ?
any help would be appreciated heaps
thanks guys

I read an magazine article a while ago in a magazine which said power wires and bad grounding causes the engine noise thorugh the speakers. I would recommend talking to a pro to properly diagnose the problem as you could do a number of things from moving the RCA cables away from power cables to getting better insulated ignition leads and you might still have the problem because you werent sure which exact item/s were causing the problem.
Got any photos of your setup installed?

Do you have an after market grounding kit?
It may be what you need but i'm not sure since I haven't tinkered with the stereo. You can make up some leads yourself for 20 bucks and see how it goes.

the thing is i got the stereo installed by a car stereo store ..
i was bored with the way things were, so i tinkered with things and changed the sub and moved the amps
i never adjusted the volume of the amps when they were origially installed so im not sure if there was any engine noise then
the only thing i changed when i moved the amps was the ground
i had to move it... but i made a really good one...
sanded the paint off and so on ....
im sure that before i put the car back together i tested it and couldnt hear anything ... maybe cause the amp buzzing was too loud and i didnt notice ... hmmm
all the cables are good quality and expencive
and no aftermarket grounding kit.. sounds good though
will have good pics as soon as i have put a few bits of carpet in

I have the same problem before in my old car, I have ask the professional sound system expert about the problem, They adviced me that the Audio cable (from head unit to amp) and the main power cable must not crossing each other or running together. It is better to run them on difference side of the car. I follow his advice and i run the cable to both side, the problems gone!! Another things is you should not running any cable with the main power cable, eg speaker cable as well.
Cheers

yeh that engine noise your hearing is Alternator whine.. definitely due to a bad grounding somewhere.. i have had it in every audio system i've had except for one, and most of them were quite intermittent as well.. a real pain in the *** because there was nothing for a while, then bang, 5 mins later the whine starts !! it can also be caused by a faulty component which i think is what caused the delayed whine in mine..
how much do you have your amps turned up?? the Gain i mean... because the only time i've had my stezza pop when turning it on and off was when the amp gain was cranked cause i was running 4 15's off the one amp... every other time it was fine so maybe thats the cause..
f-knows about hearing Nova thru the sub though hhahaha, never heard of that one before !!!!!! im thinking maybe the wiring is stuffed somewhere else, or maybe even the HU is faulty because the amp would be powering the sub, so any output from the sub must be coming from the amp, so the amp must be getting input from Nova thru the HU or a wire somewhere ??
where did you get your system installed? A1 Audio wasnt it? they are usually pretty decent from what i've heard... If i were you i'd take it back and tell them to fix it..

the stereo pops no matter how loud the amps are ...
im sure i have the buzzing fixed i grounded it right near the main power .... silly me ...
im sure the radio thru the sub is cause of the power and cables chucked everywhere....
ill make it more tidy maybe this sunday.. if not next week sometime...
when i was checking to see if there was a buzz, the amps were not fixed properly, and then i moved them.. i think when i moved them thats where the cables are too close..
so im sure that will fix the prob ..
nar i got it installed at JB cannington, the chick did a really good job...
no complaints from me, and i would recomend them,
its just i got picky and fussy and wanted to move everything ..
so its my fault im having problems ..
hehehe yeh it is your fault , but im the same hahaha.. i can never resist playing around with stuff that a professional has just finished setting up hahaha.. i can never leave it alone haha
your runnin an Audiobahn 10" arent you?? how does that sound?? im trying to decide what to do with my system... either;
A.) live without a boot again and jam 2 of the 15's i have at home in there in a box that takes up every cc of space... i really dont wanna do that again though haha
B.) use my Soundtream 10" OR get a new top quality IDMax or audiobahn or similar 10" and put a proper ported box in place of the BOSE wet piece of paper thats passing as an excuse for a sub at the moment.. then i could give it about 1000w RMS so power wont be an issue...
im not sure that a single 10 will give enough bass though because i had a system with four 15's as my daily driver for about 4 years, and i had it cranked nonstop - surprised my hearing isnt shot to ***** !!!!

my hearing is ****
and it isnt from my stereo ...
just everything else....
the audiobahn 10" that i have now, give off heaps of bass
i mean a 10" gives out a lot faster punchier sound
so i dont think you can compair to 2 huge 15" hehe
i didnt want to live without boot space in my zed, as space is limited anyway, thats why everything is hidden..
im happy with the 10", but im not happy where it is ..
im thinking about ditching the 10" and getting 2 x 8" and putting them in the boot (the corners where the foam is) so the piece ofshit spair tyre will still pop up, that way they are out of the way and will sound good
just try your 10" and if your not happy then decide somehting crazy
what amp are you planning on using ??
both my amps are audiobahn too ...
both based of sound quality over any other amp i heard ..

ive got a Crossfire BMF 1000D which il run at 2ohms into my soundstream 10" so it will be getting about 500w RMS which should be enough.... its a nice sounding solid meaty amp that puts out a lot of power, probably not the same build quality as audiobahn or anything but for a Class D amp for a grand its hard to beat hehe...
have you sorted out your system yet???

will be finishing my stereo this sunday
keeping my 10"
just need ti sort it out
when are you doing yours nang ??
you still sound like you have no idea what you wanna do ??
i think keep the car pretty standard, you need your boot
especially in a Zed ..
so i dont think 4 x 15" would be practicall haha
got my grille today though
and getting my sheepskins fitted on saturday
no im not a leather fan, i hate the stuff ..
so getting my custom sheepies made

haha yeh your right, i still dont know what i want to do.. i need some bass but i dont wanna lose the whole boot of my Z, as small as it is haha...
actually its not too bad, on saturday arvo i fit a carton of heinekin, a carton of Becks, a carton of Lowenbrau and a carton of black douglas and cola cans into the boot with a bit more room to go still hahha.. gotta love it when the local bottlo has specials on haha..
yeh i definitely dont want to start chopping the car up or anything.. so im definitely leaning towards going with one 10" and a shitload of power.. will cost a lot less as well and ive got plenty of other things that i want to get done around the house first haha.. like my outdoor bar/entertaining area that is so far up to about $11K a`nd counting mwahahahhaha
what grille did you get? got any pics?
