Great hitch guys free bump also. Of note the 05 bumper attachments are much sturdier than previous models. I only put may 2 extra small welds on some keys spots and thats it. The whole thing is boxed in like if you grasped your hands together.

Thanks DmanG281. Did you happen to take any pics of the '05 bumper brackets when you had it all apart?

Glen,

Excellent. The first two pictures are exactly where I had to add welds on the '03. The weld in the third pic was on the '03 if I remember correctly. Do you mind if I use these pics in my instructions to show the difference between 03/04 and the 05 redesign?

Thanks.

Looking for a hitch for a 2003 G35 coupe....just looked at the bumper and looks just like the Z's bumper (it doesn't look like aluminum to me) so don't think it will require any modifications ?? Let me know on the group buy.

Also Curt Manufacturing makes one for the G35, but nearly as clean as yours !

Go ahead and use them.

Other than having to replace my trailer box (stupid short on trailer), the hitch and such are working great!

I just need to install the new, isolation trailer light control box and figure out where I'm going to run the 12V from the battery...

I crawled under the back of a G35 coupe the other day. I didn't have anything to take measurements with, but here are my initial observations.

The bumper brackets on the G35 are much longer than on the Z, which moves the bumper further away from the frame. It also means that the bumper cover wraps underneath the bumper further.

What does that mean for using the current Z hitch on a G35? Well, two things. First, the longer bumper brackets mean a longer moment arm from the frame, thus the hitch load puts more stress on the bracket and bolts. I'd have to measure stuff up and figure out what the max load could be, but it will be dramatically reduced. Second, you would need to cut a notch in the bumper cover for the receiver.

Now, if I do ever build the heavy duty version (bolts directly between the frame and the bumper brackets) that version may work perfectly well for both the Z and the G35. I'm still waiting for a volunteer to work with me on that prototype.

I'm thinking that you can get it from the stereo amplifier harness. The amp is located on the driver's side, under the foam block next to the spare.

Roark, Curt Manufacturing already makes a hitch for the G35 that bolts to the bumper....so I believe they would have already done the (stress & strain) analysis. However their hitch does not look nearly as clean as yours. I've got some photos of theirs mounted on a G35 coupe if you want to send me your e-mail. I think your Z hitch would be fine for loads under 1000 lbs.

Roark, I'm planning for the 2006 season. Do you have any hitches in stock, or are you planning a new production run?

PM or e-mail me. Thanks.

I made a couple of these with a 1-1/4" horizontal recepticals instead of the standard draw bar for a ball. You can attach any 1-1/4" bike rack to that piece.
