Default A/X: 710s to fit 18 X 8 Wheels?

Is anyone running Kumho 710s on their 18 X 8 wheels... if so, what size are you running? Thanks.

The smallest 18s are the 285, and they don't even come close to fitting.

The only game in town right now for the 18s are Hoosier, and there might still be a few 275/35 A3S04s on closeout, otherwise you're going to be waiting for the S05s.

you could run a 245. It wouldn't be my first choice but I'd rather pay for a 245 710 than a 275 hoosier.

I have two sets of 275/35-18 A3S04 Hoosiers... looking for the follow-on set when one of them finally wears out... the tread, the compound wore out after four events.

del105, are you running 245/35-18 Kumhos?

no im running 275/40/17 710s. I'm just saying I would rather be a little under tired then throw away money on the S04 hoosiers. I've had the Hoosiers and they are complete garbage. They corded after 5 auto-x events.

Keith Casey was running a 245/35/18 on his RX8 at the Pro and they didn't look that bad. His car weighed around 180lbs less than my 350z and he said the car felt like it had enough tire.

The problem is that there are only two 18-inch tire sizes in the 710s, and they are too big, and even bigger.

You 17-inch-wheel guys are lucky, you get to choose between 710s and A3S04/S05. Us 18-inch-wheel guys are pretty much limited to Hoosier, unless a miracle happens with Kumho.

245/35-18, available but not advertised on the TireRack website, you have to call though I may have stashed the last set ...

My experience with the A3S04 hasn't been a premature tread wear issue... I ran all season on one set (including a couple of practice days), and they still have tread... they just became very slippery in very short order. After four events, they fell off in a big way.

I still need to finish them off... and my back-up set. But I'm thinking last year's set will be used up after this weekend's Saturday practice and Sunday event.

Tire Rack lists the 245/35-18 710... they are .8 shorter than my 275/35-18s... I hope that doesn't introduce a 3rd gear shift... I usually have one or two spots per event where I bounce off the limiter in 2nd... any thoughts?

del105, thanks for the RX-8 input. Watching the guys on 710s in SS, during the NWR SCCA opener in Yakima last weekend, they seemed to just defy reality in terms of massive grip... truly awesome. I was held captive by a severe lack of grip... everywhere. The car turns in great, held through the center, but I couldn't accelerate out... just major slippage out back... very frustrating.

You guys with 17s... congrats on your selection, what other nuggets of knowledge are you packing away?

At the Pro this weekend Cart Thompson brought out his new 05 track model with A3S04's. After saturday morning runs he called a mechanical and drove my car the rest of the weekend because the grip wasn't there. We talked about it and he said he could not get my car to break loose unlike his on the hoosiers. I seriously would rather have 245 710s than 275 SO4s.

Hmmm other nuggets of knowledge.

Take EVERYTHING out of the car, out of the glove box, all other compartments, change holder, all mats, carpets out of the back (legal as they aren't fixed to the car) the spare, all the tools. And I run with as LITTLE gas as possible, I've never had a starvation issue even when running the car at -- miles till empty.

I may test out running with a full tank to see if that will help cure inside tire spin, but I don't think it's going to help enough to add the weight.
