Question Anyone else having HUB problems too???

Okay, so here's the story:

I track my car A LOT. And, I run a lot of rubber on the back. That puts a lot of strain on the hubs/axles.

A few months back I noticed my car "wiggling" under heavy accelleration. It felt like I was losing traction. But, it was actually the rear hub. It was so bad that the wheel almost fell off. The dealer fixed it.

Well, now I am having the same problem with the driver's side. I'll be taking the car in next week to have it fixed too. No biggy...

Just wondering if anyone else has had this same problem???

I think BJ @ 350EVO said the Grand Am cup cars were the same way. I think they might be working on beefed up bearings. I'll probably check mine this weekend. Any other symptoms besides "wiggling"?

I just got my car towed home because my front left bearings/hubs parially seized. I had a track day at Thunderhill last Thurs, and drove a good 110 miles before I felt something amiss with the front end. At first, it felt like I lost air in my tires because the car felt really sluggish, the steering response became dull, and there was excessive road noise from the front end.

I pulled over as soon as I could, and checked my air pressure, and found that is was ok. So, I drove it another mile, and I felt fine for about half a mile, then it suddenly felt like the front brakes were applied again. It didn't pull to either side, which baffled me because when I lifted the vehicle, I could not rotate my driver's side wheel, but the passenger's side was fine. I touched the hub behind the center cap, and it definitely felt hotter than the other wheels, but not to the point that it could burn my fingers.

I was about 7 miles from home when this all happened! In any case, I'm going to have to disassemble the hub, and check out what's wrong. I only have 27,000 miles on this car, and have only done 6 track days...all of it on street tires. I did spin off the track once, but it tracked straight, and I was able to do one more full session, and drive almost home without incident.

Has anyone else experienced this?

My car feels like it is very wiggly and unstable also. I just tried some more rear toe in to see if that would help. Something feels very wrong. I figured it might be my crappy stock shocks though. Perhaps I am experiencing the same thing.
What do you mean by your wheels almost fell off? My wheels feel solid with the old shake test when I have the car up in the air. I am not able to wiggle them with my hands so I am assuming my hubs are ok.
I also have terrible hub flex which pushes back my calipers and leaves me with no brakes.

Well, I just diagnosed my front end, and it appears that I have a brake issue instead of the hub/bearing. I'll post this problem on another thread since this one is unrelated to my headaches.

Other symptoms:

Yes. You can hear the hub/bearing clicking. But, it is not very noticeable. I only noticed it when I was running next to a freeway barrier with the windows down. It also started tracking poorly...like the front wheel alignment was off. But, it was actually the rear wheel moving around instead. Lastly, go to the back of your car and put your foot on the top of the sideway and push. If it moves the wheel back and forth then you probably have the problem too. Mine was REALLY bad. Now the driver's side it getting worse too.

Hope that helps...

Yes that helps. I had the clicking too. I took it into Nissan and they greased the stub axles and the clicking went away. Did they just replace your hubs or did they do anything else? How many miles do you have on your car?

No, they had to replace the entire hub. It had so much movement that is was not repairable. That happened on the passenger side around 29K. I'm at 34K now and have ran a few more track events. I think 150MPH on the roval at California Speedway probably did it this time. When I got back, I had horrible tire where on the front driver's tire...inside toe edge and the car started "wiggling" shortly thereafter.

BTW: I run 275 on the back on street - 245 on track.
