woo HOO! High Rock Raceway!
Many of you saw a post a while back about a proposed raceway in Rowan County in North Carolina (near Salisbury.) Obviously, those of us in the area have been anxiously awaiting some serious info on the track (around here, its a 'believe it when we see it' attitude.) Well, we got some of that hard evidence today when we were contacted by the track's management asking if we would make a commitment to rental.
Obviously we said yes, and while we still don't have many details about the facility, we do know a few things:
1) It will NOT be an Alan Wilson design (some cheers, some jeers... he designed Barber Motorsports Park, Carolina Motorsports Park, and Mid-America Raceway in Iowa... to name just a few.)
2) Grading has already been started and should be finished by year's end. We are told you can visit the site and walk the proposed layout.
3) Estimates are that events will not begin until 2007
All that said, it will be very nice to have a very centrally located track that is a dedicated road circuit with all the amenities. We committed to two dates there, although things can always change (we are not financially committed.)
We hope by then that our program can warrant that many events so we don't have to drop any of our other events... Of course, there's always hope that some more desirable dates will open up at VIR as well.

that's great news Stacy.
as you said, it is nice to finally hear some more info about this. i had already developed somewhat of a "yeah right" attitude, so this was a good way to change it.
anyway, go ahead and pencil me in for our first run there in '07.

Sean... I'm gonna be up your way Saturday... stopping by Hubcap Heaven in Cary to replace two tires @ 8:30 Saturday morning (providing I get my drive-shaft repaired this week). If you're out and about, stop by... I think TarHeel is doing some kind of dent day or something as well.

stacy...i'll try to make it by. the fiancee and i have "counseling" session number 2 with the pastor that morning, but hopefully i can come by before or after.
john...there is an overhead track map drawing floating around out there somewhere, and i believe it has the topo incorporated with it. try looking around..
i travel the state quite a bit for work, so if i get some spare time while i am in that area, i will definately try to stop by and see what is going on.

Three months ought to be enough time to make schedule arrangements. -Stacy
