So, in my quest to keep my Z “bone stock” and mainly street driven, I’m now faced with a new dilemma.
I want a harness, preferably a 6 points one and a HANS device. Working backward, I need a new seat and at least a roll bar.
I’m thinking of getting a Kirkracing bolt on roll bar wt straight rear legs. (~350$). I’ve seen a couple guys have that one and seem to like it.
Then there are seats. How much should I expect to pay for one?
Harness? I’ll be looking for a cam lock unit, 3 or 4 in wide. Any idea of pricing?
Plus new helmet and the HANS device it self...
How much did your setup costs ? Is 1,500 $ realistic ?

Seats. FIA cert. Fiberglass shell: $400-550 for Sparcos. Recaro SGPs are like ~700-800ea. ~15-18 pounds each. not including base hardware.. with base, i'd estimate no more than 25pounds total. stock seats are alot more than that. bases are $120 each and + sliders for ~$45 +$40 for side mounts. imho go custom seat rails. Everyone is different size. get one that puts u in the perfect seating in the Z.
Seats. Reclining, non FIA cert: $700+ for the Milanos, or if u want to go JDM, Bride seats are up there too. like $800 each. Alot heavier than the racing buckets. but a bit better for daily driving. +$120 seat base
Harnesses. Schroth 3"wide 5 point with Camlocks are like $330-$360. I believe Sparco now has their harnesses made by schroth... install of the eye bolts welded into a car would probably run around $100-200 for labor. you need to weld to the frame a plate and then weld the eye bolts to that.
Helmet with HANS device.... Simpson Super Voyager is like $380. Great for all around SA2000+ helmet with the hans clip built in. works with your sunglasses if u have any. . the HANS is like $500 option... oh well. it's safety. you can never be "too safe." wait until after OCT 2005.. the new SA2005 helmets will be out. and the SA2000 will be like 15% off.. check out Bell too their new M4 is nice.
i have a Sparco WTT f1 helmet that i got on sale for $500. but no hans...
i had my custom weld-in roll bar made at TechnoSquare. they made that, with my custom seat rails (lower than stock) and installed with the harness points for like $1000... but i'm sponsored by them. Your price at a local shop should be $1800-2000. the Kirk bar is nice. but it should be higher to the roof line. i think there's a slight gap with the top of the bar to the roof.. my bar has 1mm gap from the ceiling.

I’ve found a Rollcageguy near my place. I’ll have a custom roll bar installed (welded).
For seats, the Recaro Speed series are adjustable “sports” seat compatible with 5pt harness. It turns out the only Recaro supplier in OH is 20 minutes from my place! Sweet!

Thanks for the link EnthuZ.
Interesting the setup with the anti-submarining straps on the lap straps anchors.
I wish their video of Putnam actually showed the driver!
