Default Race seat question

If you buy race seats and harness you also have to buy roll cage to strap the harness to right?
I'm thinking about Corbeau FX1 Pro + 4 point belt but to use the belt I have to have a roll cage?

you need a steel bar behind the seat to strap the harness right?
roll cage i saw is like 500 dollars
steel bar would be not cost effective if it only serves one purpose rather than a roll cage that can serve both safety and seat harness thing...
right?

Finding anchor points for the harness is not the most critical point.

Making sure the roof doesn't collapse in a roll and snap your neck is the real challenge. With a harness, you can't bend over to get out of the way of the roof.

This is why you need at least a roll bar.

+1

rigid bucket seats + harness + roll/flip - rollcage = goodluck being fed through a straw

"Technically required" makes sense only if you consider that the risk of a serious head and neck injury actually go WAY UP if you use just a race seat and harness. As Kolia has stated, having a 4-7 point harness does you no good unless you've got a least a main hoop for safety. So you might consider a roll BAR rather than a cage for street use. There's been discussion on other threads (with pics) about this, so try a search...

If you just do auto-X.. i think you'll be ok with just race seats, harneses, and a harness bar.. since the chance of flipping over is very slim.

when you do HPDEs, there are dips/gravel when you go off course,.. AND other drivers that *might* hit you, causing you to flip. hence the roll bar suggestion.

it's always best to do it right the first time and not half azz it.

I find that a harness in a Z is not needed get a g-lock on the seatbelt or buy a rollcage.

I've never seen a roll bar that I would trust for the Z.

CG-Lock. www.cglock.com

If you are going to go the harnesses route, its like a never ending cycle for safety, but it is WELL worth it if you HPDE. If you get harnesses, you should get a roll bar or cage. If you get a roll bar/cage and you still drive on the street, you need good roll bar padding. If you have harnesses, race seats, roll bar/cage, etc. The factory airbags could pose more of a threat than anything, so I would suggest taking them out. Then of course there is the HANS devise which tops off the whole package. If the Hans devise is too pricey, at least get a neck brace from either Simpson, G-Force, RCI, etc. I would also suggest fireproof clothing and at least attaching a fire extinguisher somewhere in your car that is easily accessable in case your car is on fire and you are unconcious. Although it is not likely that you will ever use these things, all it takes is one incident. Right now I am in the middle of all of this safety stuff and it gets costly. But if your life is worth it to you, this is a MUST if you do HPDE type or Open Road racing.

The OEM seats in the Z are pretty good. Lateral support and range of adjustment allow most drivers to find a good driving postion. Having said that, pure racing seats allow you an even higher level of lateral support, but they can be a PITA to get into and out of (not the best for a daily driver). I've also found that the OEM seats in a car like the S2K are comparible to the Z's seats. The factory engineers at both Nissan and Honda obviously did their homework to ensure that these seats had adequate lateral support.

This bar would serve as a good harness bar and roll bar for a good price... just as long as you're not going to get too serious into road racing.

Yeah i was actually looking at it but its only a rear 4point cage not a 6 point car roll cage...
its like 450 dollars for the Z + installation lol... not bad but if I do want to have a 6 point cage it can be upgraded or do i have to buy a new one ?

I have the Kirk bar and I like it. Installation was pretty easy so I don't really think you need to take it to a shop. If you want, why don't you have a shop turn the Kirk 4 point into a 6 point?

Actually the Kirk 4 point is only $350 and the full bolt in cage is $660. It also doesnt look very hard to install the cage.

You still need to weld in reinforcement plates for the mounting points of the bar/cage. I went with a custom roll bar since the cost of materials and installation was nearly the same as the Kirk, and the quality of the custom was MUCH better and fit MUCH better.
