Default performance to an enthusiast.

what would i have to do to legally run my 350z as an enthuiasnt model when it's a performance model?

the only major difference i saw the the TCS v VDC. since these are 'off' while running, will this make a difference?

also the performance has a rear spoiler and 18" wheels, but the reason i want to run an enthusiast is for the 17" wheels. possible?

maybe I don't know enough about autocross (I assume you're talking about autocross)... does that put you in a different class? I thought all the 350Zs were in B-Stock

all the 350z models are in bs. however if you have a performance, like me, with the 18s. the rules state that if i ran the 17" enthusiast wheels i would be in Bsp.

the real question i am asking is why can't i run 350z wheels. is there a performance difference between models? all the other diferences i see are negligable. would i really be protested at a divisional/pro?

Taken from 2005 SCCA Stock Category Rules (sec.13):

Option package conversions may be performed between specific vehicles of a particular make and model, but only between configurations from within a particular model year. Such conversions must be complete and the resultant car must meet all requiremants of this section.

I think the rules you are refering to are talking about after-market wheels/tires, especially of a smaller overall diameter

interesting. thanks for that.

from my understanding if i run 17x7.5 f and 17x8 rear i will be ok, but for some reason i'm still thinking this is illegal.. ?

I don't think any one would even know unless you told, its up to the protester to come up with it being illegal and up to you to prove it is not. So just disable vdc (fuse?) and your fine legally.
IMHO it would be petty of someone to call a protest on this.

that was my opinion on it.. there is no performance difference between the two cars. oh well, now it's out in the open.. if anybody sees me and feels the need to protest...

it's ok, i'll be running dead last anyway

If there's no performance difference, then why do you want to make the change?

to run the smaller diameter wheel.

v710s are ~50 cheaper/wheel.

Most people want to make the jump to smaller wheels for the performance benefit. Smaller wheels are lighter and the mass is closer to the axis of rotation so they spin up quicker and easier.

I thought about making the same change myself. After talking with some of the local rules experts I decided that it couldn't be done 100% legally. We're pretty loose on the rules anyway so on the local level it wouldn't have made a lot of difference. Now to compete regionally/nationally would be a different story.

i meant that the performance and enthusiast share no performance benefits based on drivetrain.

obviously a 17" wheel will weight less than an 18", which is not what i'm really worried about since i'll still be running the enthusiast wheels which still weighs a bit.
