I'm not sure if they timed Z through the 'Ring.
But I'm pretty damn sure it will be well over 8 minutes for the Z.

For your info, here are the unofficial lap times from article in Motor Trend

Porsche Carrera GT - 7min 32sec
Corvette Z06 - 7min 42sec
Porsche 996 GT2 - 7min 42sec
Pagani Zonda S - 7min 44sec
Lamborghini Murcielago - 7min 50sec
Lamborghini Gallardo - 7 min 52sec
Mercedes-McLaren SLR - 7min 52sec
Corvette C6 - 7min 59sec
Porsche 911 - 8min 07sec
Dodge Viper GTS - 8min 10sec

*Lap record is 6min 11sec by Porsche 956 F1 car in 1983.
After its near fatal crash, they stopped timing F1 cars.
I'm sure with current F1 technology, it'll be under 5min.

That is for all cars sold in Europe. I paid the equivalent of USD 45K for my 35th ann. Z..

In Europe, the Z is comparable in price to a 335 coupe in the US.

You guys have it good in the US

faster than a ferrari 355 and a 992 C2, not bad

considering the power bump the 07 got, the gap should be a bit wider now...

The problem with using the Ring as a benchmark is that there are SOOOOOO many variables.

The same driver would have a hard time turning the same time in the same car on two different days due to things like weather, traffic, etc - remember it's a 12+ mi loop (Nordschleife).

Differences on the order of 30 seconds may be meaningful, but it's not too hard to imagine that small differences on the order of 5-10 seconds or even a little more (over a 7-9 min lap) could be accounted for simply by the conditions on that day.

when they run the full lap usually they shutdown the track to the public
but you're absolutely correct about the track condition... the area of the ring is so wide that isn't weird to have sun on one side and foggy and damp on the other.
but that at the end is true for every track on the planet... or you run the testing at the same time, the same day or you're going to induce some variation just for the tarmac and air temperature change.

even if most of the ring drivers are absolute level professionals, their feel with the car and their condition could make some difference...

and the biggest different comes (unofficially of course) from advertisement... most of them aren't independent test, are magazine test and for how usually is there... you can push a little harder if the car comes from a big payer or lift a little bit earlier if comes from somebody that doesn't pay your bills.

sad to say that in Italy is absolutely normal.. maybe the germans are a little bit more professionals but their nation pride is so strong that I wouldn't bet about that.

tho i agree with the above said, but the ring is almost accurate in terms of comparison. otherwise, there wouldn't be any benchmark to rely on.
