So how is the fluid going to get back to the diff? It's great that you aren't letting it puke out onto the track, but the diff will still run low/dry while the catch tank is full of fluid.

The design purpose wasn't to recycle the fluid. It was simply to provide a means of catching the fluid that SOME people are leaking. I'm talking about a tea spoon worth of fluid loss over a weekend of tracking. In my humble opinion, I do not think this minute volume of fluid loss would have a detrimental effect on the rear axel gears. The volume of the catch tank should be way more than any normal track junkie will ever need. If I ever see fluid loss greater than this, I'll look at another solution. Adding a splash of diff fluid isn't THAT difficult.

BTW, Nick, have you ever measured your diff fluid temps?

Getting ready to do it again on StaticCling's Z this weekend. ALL the kinks have been worked out!

Some new pics:
Looks pimp. Will you be down at Jack's next weekend for StaticCling's install?? I'll be there with the new ride putting together the new ride! BTW, I bought another red 350!! F350 that is. ;-)

Sweet, can't wait for the install. Mine is the super sexy titanium HKS oil catch can. I might also have the Quaife installed by then as well.

So how is the fluid going to get back to the diff?
For me, it did not lose all that much fluid. However it started to smell terrible as it just sat in that crossmember. This should provide an eaiser way to dispose/contain the runout.

I heard that you were getting a new ride Zillinois. I wonder if it could tow perhaps a Z and a Diasio at the same time . See you this weekend.

You guys are just over filliling your diffs... when the fluid starts dripping from the fill hole, let all of the excess come out (about 1-2 min) before plugging it up. You'll notice much less (if any) excess runoff.

It has got the capacity, now can we fit a D and a Z in my 28' footer??

03Z33, these guys are cooking their differentials from repeated 20/30 minute sessions hot lapping. Heavily stressed differentials spew oil and the catch can is a good way to be polite to other drivers by keeping your fluids off the track.

I have not measured the temps, though I'm embarrassed to say that. I'm told the NISMO rear cover is good for a temp drop of about 30 degrees (F).

I had to re-fill the diff after every racing weekend due to all the fluid loss. This year, the whole system is being upgraded to include a cooler and electric pump, as well as the NISMO finned cover and a catch can. Transmission is being cooled as well. Unfortunately, progress on the car has been remarkably slow due to lack of time to dedicate to it.

Yes, I'll be going to BFJ's this Saturday to install StaticCling's catch tank. Hope he will help me install my Stillen engine torque dampener. Geoff, congrats on the BFT!

03Z33, trust me, we are NOT overfilling our diffs! Overdriving, absolutely!

If we were overfilling them, than we would only be loosing fluid on the first session. I continually watch my fluid **** out after all of my sessions throughout a weekend. At the end of the weekend, my diff is clunky and loud and I have to fill her up before my trip home. Strange thing is that I can get her to leak after what I consider to be an easy session. And it seems to be be worse on high speed tracks.

You must all be running stock viscous lsd's? You may want to upgrade to a clutch style lsd, and the Nissan Motorsports finned cover doesn't hurt either...

+1 +Rs & I let the diff drip for 5 minutes and it still pukes it out..... It didn't spit fluid until I changed out the stock VLSD.

That's weird, because I beat my car to a pulp, full throttle drifting with my diff set to 2-way full lock and not moving so very little airflow... I don't get any overflow as long as I use the good fluid (Kaaz) and don't over fill it...

I ran a track event at buttonwillow (full track) where my brembos cooked a brand new set of Hawk blue pads in two sessions, and I never had any diff fluid leak out... just surprised that's all

Thanks Nate!

I recently installed #3. Not nearly as cool as the 1st 2 CandyApple Raspberry Red oil tanks, but the bronze look works with his Stillen exhaust! But it is a HKS, with a sticker, so not sure which will be faster.....racing red. or stikered? Forgot the formula........

Found out that the volume full tube is visible through the wheels!

Another sweet install Bruce! You are really getting amazing at install on these. I feel left out without a catch can. Maybe I could put one on the Diasio. Next weekend we will actually do something on your car!!

I could not be happier with the install/fitment. Yes I received #3, and the diff leakage issue should now be solved. I was getting a minor amount of fluid on hot track days (>=90 degrees) with the stock VLSD and stock (non-nismo) diff cover. This year I have the nismo-diff cover and the catch can.

Next up, front brake cooling.

these are way to high class

I just put a 3' hose in place of the 1' hose that the brilliant nissan engineers ran from the diff. We'll see if that will keep me from pissing fluid into the chassis. I'm hoping it flows back into the diff when things cool down. I'll put a catch can on if this doesn't do the trick.

So, next weekend while I'm at work, you'll swap back in my race suspension? While you're at it, be sure to install the Nismo long wheel studs & the new a-arms!

Working MOST weekends sucks!
