Default People who track FI cars - are you having heating issues?

I'm having some heat issues with my car whenever I go to the track. My sessions are about 20 minutes each. First session is usually ok but when I go out for subsequent sessions the temp needle goes up; not to the red but it creeps up so I usually pull in after that.

The rest of the day is usually ruined because I can only do 5 minute runs before the temp starts to creep up again.

I haven't upgraded any coolers or radiators. Is this a must?

Thanks guys

Yes, they are a must. Anytime you add pressure (FI) you add heat. Combine that to the cramped engine bay, then combine THAT with the added stresses of track driving for long periods of time and it's inevitable that you're going to heat up. and you don't want that in an FI car - especially if you aren't 100% sure of your A/F mixture under those kinds of loads (why dynoing is so important in FI systems.)

As more and more people start tracking FI cars, these posts will become more and more common...

Get an aftermarket radiator, oil cooler, power steering oil cooler, and a oil temp gauge so you can monitor that as well. I also recomend an oil pan spacer or bigger oil pan to increase the oil capacity.

I have the APS TT so they include the oil pan but apparently you're not supposed to add any more oil than stock as some people have had oil burning through the turbos from overfilling.

Adding a nice big oil cooler will add another 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart capacity to the system. I wonder if anyone has tried running he JWT spacer in combination with the APS pan. That would be sweet.

He has added a setrab oil cooler (custom setup) since then and has not mentioned any further heat issues.

^^^ your oil cooler setup is AWESOME *jealous* - I'm up in the air, haven't decided on a bumper, yet, I almost don't want to go so custom as to be "locked in" to bodywork. I might just cop out and get the NISMO, it's gotta be better than nothing plus it comes w/ the sandwich plate.

^^

that's the beauty of my set up, its just the brackets you have to make and the length of hose to buy.

that nismo one is nice.. but wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too expensive imho-

measure it out! you'll be saving you a few hundred $$ that you can spend on... a bumper!

replica INGs are going for the amount you might save anyways...

Thanks for all the input. I have an APS TT with stock bumper. What coolers and radiator will work well with this?

i recently had my APS ST on a shakedown track day after the turbo installation. i've got both water and oil temps available. lets just say you absolutely, not a question, need to add oil cooling capacity. because the factory 'oil cooler' dumps heat into the (water) coolant system, i'm not sure if a larger radiator will be required as well. i'm guessing it will, but one variable at a time...

another important item to note is the necessity of replacing all the various plastic pieces in the nose of the car. most of them force air through the radiator core, vastly improving its efficiency. if you neglected to replace them upon re-assembly (as i did), i highly recommend you refit them. everything from the little 6x6" vertical panels, to the undertray. i'm willing to bet these small pieces make a large difference in the efficacy of the factory radiator (and similar pieces for an aftermarket unit).
