Both cars, for our events, require additional roll-over protection than stock. The S2K's roll hoops, while structural, are not tall enough to meet our requirements (helmet must not stick above the roll hoop, ideally with 2" to spare under a straight line from top of windshield).

The Miata, and quite frankly, any other convertible on the market must meet this requirement, AND must be approved by the host track for high speed events before it will pass tech for our events...

The only exception we've made thus far is the Porsche Boxter with a Brey-Krause roll-bar extension for non-time trial use.

Also have yall thought any more about the get together?
I frankly haven't had much time to... although I think it's still something we want to do. Stay on Marty about it... he'll give in eventually

Since we're doing three days down there this time, my guess is we're more likely to have a good turnout, since lots of people will go into Savannah Friday night instead of Saturday night. In the past, it's been hard to get more than a handful of people at any one place Saturday because most want to go into town.

Hey now...

Actually, let's start getting this planned. I have some time now that we can get things a bit organized.

Pm or call me if you still have my cell so some details can be worked out on the party.

k - finally found this post, don't know if I can make it yet. Is there still room for the Intermediate HPDE group?
Might have to wait to see how I feel after the Gainesville track experience, but I had so much fun driving Roebling this past weekend that I really want to drive it again.

Mood... sorry I didn't see this post earlier... we do still have a couple spots still open in intermediate at the moment, best to register through MotorsportReg... when you go to sign up, it will tell you if that group is full or not. There's lots of room in our green group if you don't mind driving in that one. Traffic should be light, but if its a problem, we can probably bump you up after a couple sessions.

Nive vid!! I have to assume you've got some sticky rubber and some pretty huge cajones to take T1/T2 in fourth gear What started 'flapping'? Must have been disconcerting if it wasn't normal.

Also... was that at NASA last weekend? I saw some pics from Ken Brewer of a crunched up Vette... what happened there, do you know?

That wasn't my car, he's a good RX-8 friend running Toyo RA-1's. I had Kuhmo V710's on mine and they were amazing! This was the time I didn't bring video, and I wish I had. I had such an amazing time. Turn 1 was 80-90 entry speed. Turn 4 was 90+, Turn 4 was 70. Hell of a weekend!

Tell Ken hello next time you see him. The vette was coming out of the last turn onto the straight and lost the outside rear tire off track a little into the grass, tried to correct, and went head first into the wall. Guy walked away, was physically fine.

Were you in an HPDE or time trials? I thought I saw a Z in timetrials.

No, I didn't, but another RX-8 guy (white) had one. I've got a green RX-8 and have an RX-7 which was my daily driver before that. The 7 is being turned into a track car.

No I was bumming around the pits and ran into a guy with a red RX-8 who I allways seem to run into at various events (trackdays, solos etc). We always bs for a minute but cannot remember his name for anything. He was parked across from the aps 350z. If I know you were out there I would have said hi.

Went out just to watch some of the club racing and check up on another couple of friends who where running an accord in H4 class. And generally walk around and poke my head in others race cars.

We will be out there soon as I get a cage in my car.

Chuck w/ the white RX-8 had a Miata before he bought the 8.
That is a picture of my Z passing everyone!
And by the second day, I was in 4th gear from turn 1 all the way to Turn 7, then finally in 5th before Turn 8 and have to shift to 6th on the straight.

The 'flapping' is probably just rubber from the tires hitting the car. In the afternoon it got so hot that on every turn it sounded like a machine gun in my car.

I know exactly what that flapping noise is since I have heard it before....

It's the Stock seatbelt flapping in the wind from the open windows. I had that sound at an event and I had to take a second or two to figure out if something was about to fall off my car...
