Default koni yellow and RSR's or nismo S-tune?

I thought I had everything all figured out which one I wanted, but I'm just not sure.

Has anyone driven both or have feedback on either setup?

thanks

If these are primarily for track use, I think both are too softly sprung.

Have you considered Tokico D-Specs?

I'm also wondering about the Koni Yellow/RSR set up. I'm leaning towards the Koni over the Tokico only because the rear is easier to adjust.

I was in the same boat as you last year trying to decide.

I went with RSR/Koni mainly because I'm a big Koni fan and the price was cheaper. Plus, the adjustment with the Koni's is great and really helps me switch between road course, auto-x and street.

Plus the combo rides more comfortably than it did stock. I like the Nismo spring rates but, not the progressive rear springs. Havent driven a Nismo set-up but I'm happy with my decision.

yeah i'm not sure, adjustability is great, but I do tend to just set and forget it. I'm not exactly a great driver or anything and won't be going tracking all the time. If I was, I'd probably buy a used older car specifically setup for the track.

I just want to be able to go out on road courses and autox every once in a while - maybe even the drag strip here and there when someone wants to race me.

I already actually have the nismo coilovers, but haven't installed them yet. Just got them, new in the box so I still have a couple weeks to return them. I ordered them back in Dec and there was a delay in getting them which I was fine with cause I was waiting on other parts as well.

So my car will 99% be street driven so I'm not sure I'll really mind the progressive rear spring

The RSR spring rates are so close to the stock 04+ springs though I'm just not sure cause I'm more than ok with dealing with a slightly stiffer ride. I have the 350EVO sway bars.

the nismo set isnt coilovers...
its basically nismo shock + nismo springs together...
imo if u want a good track set up out of the box... go JIC FLTA2 (
its stiff for the street (i think its probably one of the stiffest set ups out there for the Z33.. its very track oriented), but it handles...
-.- just imo because nismo (S-Tune aka street/sport is really not track oriented..) and koni + rs*r might be soft as well...

For my 03 they are stiffer and my body roll is pretty much gone with the RS-R/koni's and the sway bars.

All of my previous cars have had very STIFF suspension and spent very little time at the actuall track. I did it different this time since I will maybe do 5 events this year and maybe a auto-x once a month. The car is a street car so I didnt want a stiff race suspension for something I hardly do.

If I was going to pay big $$$ for coilovers it would be Zeals or something double adjustale that can actually handle the big spring rates. If my car was a track only car then I might consider the cheaper stiff JIC's, but I'm not to crazy about some of the stories I hear about them.

So for the person that started the thread and isnt worried about adjustability then I think the Nismo would be a good choice.

i am not a JIC sales rep but i like my coilovers enough to say they are pretty good... when i tune it stiff, i can do small slaloms with minimal body roll/pitch and during hard braking, minor to minimal body lean etc etc...
msrp for JIC FLTA2s are definately not 'cheap' i mean $2200 ... and vendors ditch it for around 1800+ ship
JICs are double adj, both height and 15 way dampening.
the zeals are better but u do pay the price (like 3000 dollars)
but considering quality and price, JIC FLTA2s are definately in the tier 1 range along with Tein Flex, HKS Hypermax II and ZEAL

i have owned JIC and ridden in some Zeal cars, and there are really no comparisons. JIC are overpriced in my opinion and there customer service really started slipping a couple years ago.

but the thread starter is selling his Zeals, so stepping into JIC is probably not even an option for him.

By double adjustable I meant able to adjust both compression and rebound seperatly. None of the coilovers you listed have this feature.

yeah my zeals aren't that bad. I like them and everything, but I think the spring rates are a little backwards (10kg front, 8kg rear) I could get different springs for them, but I need thinner rear shocks for the rear to fit some 315 tires. I'd rather have better traction than a uber adjustable suspension that I've set it and left it there after a week of driving it.
