Yep.... Driver did 15 runs on the 275s and within 3 runs on the 285 was 1 sec faster. Then back to the 275 and slowed down a sec. Was at our natls warm up last year on concrete. No doubt with extra tuning, different springs, you could close the gap but the 275 will not be faster.

I did not say the car was a 350z, said it was a strut car like a 350z. It was a DSP E36 BMW.

Funny how all the fast BSP/DSP BMWs and the only fast BSP S2000 out there right now are on 285 front tires. The only fast SP/SM cars on 17s are on 315 or bigger.

Thanks for all the info. I think I have a direction to go towards now. Currently I am not in a position to be nationally competative, but I want to own the local races I go to and work on moving my way up to regional and national. I currently do pretty well in BSP, but I always seem to get murdered by more "race preped" cars with big race rubber. I've been able to close the gap to under 1.5 seconds between me and those cars through focusing on my driving skills, but I know I need to do more to the car to move forward. Last weekend I got beat by a driver with 10 years more experience than me with a 3000GT VR-4 that was gutted with full roll cage and huge race rubber. The thing is he only beat me by 1.3 seconds, and I know that if I had larger race rubber I would have owned him. There is this one other guy who always seems to win by a big margin in an old corvette and I really really want to beat him just to see the look on his face.

Do 285's even fit on the front of the Z? I plan to get the fenders rolled, but that is a big tire up front.

Thats a very large number to claim between runs with such little diffrence in tires. I not buying it.

And yes you are correct about being fair to compare the tires on the same size rim. The 285 is ever so slightly wider (So I had mis info but two tenths wopydo). Does not matter any way a 10 or wider wheel will not fit on the front of a Z. But the weight diffrence between a 17 vs 18 is more than the tire have between each other. Odds are 95% of the Z that autocross are not and never will have a set of custom kodiak, panasport or who ever highend wheel grace their studs. So in the real world their is propably a 4-5lb advantage to each wheel with tire.

285's can fit.. on the right wheel. a few members here run a 285F ra1.

if he was running a 3000gt with a stripped interior in SP, it's not legal.

The guy in the old corvette is danny popp. national champ. if you can beat him, i'd be impressed.

Also, my friend hasn't been around the cincy region as of late, but he runs a bsp slk320. crazy car. easy to drive and fast. we'll be down in huntsville running it.

are you talking about flanagan's car or is it another dsp 325??

If I was not there I would not buy it either. I have nothing to gain by making it up, I have no 18s for sale, I just hate to see guys give out bad advice.

But here you are again with wrong info.... We have a Z in San Diego with 18X10 fronts and 18X10.5 rears on 285s and it is quick.

SSR comps in a 17X10 17.7 lbs, 18X10 19.5-20lbs, so we are looking at about +2lbs for wheels. So net gain is about +1lbs to go with 18s and all of the weight was added near the center because the tire on the outside is lighter.

Get real look up set of inexpensive wheels. Like an Enkei RPO that one can buy four for every two of the SSR's. There will be your 4-5lb diffrence. And I don't believe its bad advice when you can rotate your tires and get more life out of them. It's not like he asked how to win bsp at national. If that was the case I would say jack up the car and slide a corvette underneath it.

Bad advice was a bit harsh... I should have said incomplete advice.

OK so we can only look at cheap wheels. Well then Apple to Apple on width here you go:

RPF1 17X9.5 16.5 lbs/ 18X9.5 18.6 lbs

NT03+M 17X9.5 19.6-20.1 lbs/ 18X9.5 19-19.9 lbs these are on the one in SD in 18X10 and 10.5

RP03 17X10 21.4 lbs/ 18X10 21.4 lbs

I am sorry I just don't see the big weight penalty of 18s VS 17s. I do agree that being able to rotate tires is a good thing. I have yet to see a performance benefit to going with a 275. If you try to run an SP/SM car on a stock class size tire you will have a hard time keeping up. The C4 is a bad dog in BSP but the M3 and S2000 are going to be very strong this year.

Actually the old corvette I'm refering to is driven by Adam Pop, Danny's younger brother. Danny Pop drives a blue C5 vette in SM2. Yeah I'd be impressed if I could beat Danny too, but I think beating Adam is a much more reasonable goal.

Just to you... We say things like sure the 350Z is a competitive BS car. All you need is equal tires and you will be right there. The RX8 has no TQ you have us covered. Whatever it takes to keep suckers like you filling BS so we can get our checks from Mazda.

I am all for heads up competition, I don't want to win or lose because of a car difference. Anyone that wants to know it has 100% of my setup on every car I have raced.

Did you see the new price on the Hui 968? I hope someone slow buys it.

Yeah, I saw that.

Wonder if I could talk Andy into buying it.
