Default Requesting some advice for an upcoming track day. (search function is out)

After using the search function and getting page cannon be displayed I wanted to bring this up to all of you experienced people out here for some tips, advice etc..

I am running my first track day (4th track day all around) with the Z next week at Gateway International Speedway in St. Louis and my question is can I get a good day out of whats left on my tires? I am driving about 500 miles there and back and have about 4-(3-1/2)/32's left on the front and rear of my Mich. Pilot Sports. Both of them are in great shape with no uneven wear and I all I need to do is get through this day and get back. Providing I watch my tire temps and start off right do you think I can make it through the day? I have a new set of wheels on the way but they wont be here until I get back.

Here is my suspension setup.
2003 Track Edition w/ Rays wheels
Eibach Pro-Kit
255/40/18 (f)
275/35/18 (r)

Should I pick up some sways? I know getting some adjustable shocks would help but its not really in the budget right now. Also, can I make any alignment adjustments to my stock suspension to help out next week?

thanks for your input!
JA

Dayum! Are you driving all that way for one day there?

Here's a really bad in-car vid I found on Google: VIDEO

Most 'Rovals' are pretty hard on tires. Rough pavement in the infield, combined with heavy g-loads on the outside tires in the oval section can combine to eat up tires. But as long as you check them after every session (i.e. jack the car, really look at the entire tread, especially the inside of the inside tires) and know you need to conserve them to get you home... you should be OK I would think with 4/32nds.

I wouldn't do anything to the suspension right now. Anything you do to stiffen it is gonna add to the wear on the tires (they'll be doing more work). Spend your money on replacing the tires, then spend it on more track days (preferrably closer to home like Roebling Road, CMP, Road Atlanta, Barber... etc )

They are not the best tires but are coming with the wheels.

Ruff Racing 278's
18" 18/8.5 (f) 18/9.5 (r)
with Kumho Supra 712's I belive
245/40/18 (f)
275/40/18 (r)

They only have 4000 miles on the tires so if they come in before I leave on thursday should I go with those? They are not quite as light as my track wheels but the Kumhos have more tread on them.

Stack...
Thanks for the link. I am going up there with my brother and his 240 sx with an SR20 silvia conversion for a prelude meet. Back in the day I used to run my fully built prelude with all of them before moving on to an RSX then my Z. So its kind of getting back with the old group for a couple days. Its cool though, I have the fiance and a PS2 in the glovebox, it shouldnt be to hard of a drive.

Thanks for the input guys!

A fiance in the glovebox huh?

Have fun up there... our group will be at Rockingham in November if you're into the Roval thing. Not as many turns in the infield as Gateway, but much steeper banking
