Default Leaded gasoline

Why can't we use leaded gasoline in our cars? Is it just because it damages our cats? If so, would i be able to use leaded gasoline if i have test pipes?

Because it will plug your cats and foul your o2 sensors.

Why would you want to run leaded gas in the first place?

Please tell me you don't think high octane leaded race fuel will give you 20hp?

You'll eventually clog the intake valves. I wonder how the injectors will take it ?

You can get unleaded race fuel. Why take a risk with leaded?

Having run Sunoco GT Supreme (112 octane leaded) in my racing 240Z with dual 4 wire O2 sensors, I can say that as long as you don't idle for prolonged periods, an O2 sensor can work just fine with leaded fuel. But, leaded fuel in an engine that's not designed for it is a waste of money - possibly a lot of money.

Not 20hp, but maybe around 5hp. My friend's GTI got up to 5mph faster on the straights when using 100 octane compared to 91. I know our cars won't respond to higher octane as well as turbo cars. So according to roast, having test pipes and using non-foulers would making running leaded fuel ok. Thanks for the replies, i wont be trying leaded fuel.

Of course the guy from California brings up the environment!

I used to live in CA too. Here's my take on Global Warming, it's called cycles, the Earth goes through cycles, it's getting warm. Eventually it will get cold and there will be another ice age too. If people are still around then they'll freak out about it as well.

I don't see how my original post relates to religion at all??? When was the last ice age? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it was longer than 6k years ago

As for SUV ownership, I'm already covered since I just got a Tahoe to replace the 350

Um, global warming isn't the reason why leaded fuel is bad for the environment:

The symptoms of lead poisoning include neurological problems, such as reduced IQ, ...., irritability...

I'd hate to see us get dumber and more irritable.

Wrong Wrong Wrong. That will never happen because of leaded gas. The ONLY negative to the car will be the damage to the cats and O2 sensors.
