Default Lap Harness - Why not use the seat rail bolt?

I just installed my Sparco harness bar and now need to install the harnesses.
As I look at the placement for the lapbelts I am left with the question about the setup. It looks like the factory belt bolt on the doorside would work fine. On the inside, I can't see why an 'L' bracket beneath the chair rail wouldn't work. Granted, the 'L' bracket would have to be beefy, but shouldn't that work? It's in a similar line/angle as the exterior belt bolt.

What are the cons of this install? I know I will have to drill a hole into the floor for the anti-sub belt, but don't see why I should have to for the lap belts.

I welcome your input!!!!!!

Default That will work.

I used that with the Avolon harness bar for two years. I have now gone to a four point roll cage so I do not use it any more. If you want it I will give it to you. I am also in the bay area. PM me if you are interested.

I also mounted the sub points to the rear mounting points with no issues. It goes around the seat back and you sit on it. Without a race seat you are still hanging on to the steering wheel till you get stomach cramps.

Well Ray...I think we have actually met.
At first, I figured...can't be too many Ray's with a Brickyard colored 350z in San Carlos....then I saw your car.

Does CFRA mean anything to you?
We met at Laguna. I am Rob's nephew who parked next to you.
That was a great recovery in the race on Turn 11. You had us all cheering!!!

I will be going to Monty for the harness, which I hope to have on by for T-Hill.
I am definitely interested in the bracket.

That's how I have mine set up. The heavy duty "L" bracket shares the bolt that secures the seat rail to the chassis. Make sure you replace the bolt with a slightly longer one because you don't want to lose thread engagement.

From what I understand, the big 'no-no' is to secure the harness to the seat rail or any part of the seat. So, using the bolt is fine.

Marc:

Great to hear from you. In fact Monty made the bracket for me to take the Crow 6 point harness. Let me know when you are in my area and come and get the "L" bracket.

Ray

PS: New V710's make all the difference. I was just through the last rubber at Laguna.

PM sent Ray.

I will check out your new tires at T-Hil. BTW, CFRA offered me a membership...which I took!
