Hello,

Woot! That's our car. Actually, there's two of them, and they're being built pretty much identically... Yeah, it'd be great if we could throw in all kinds of engine mods and make boatloads of power, but GAC is pretty strict about keeping most of the car pretty close to stock. The good news is that the 350Zs hold their own in GAC and have done pretty well, historically.

We're busy as heck right now, prepping the cars for SEMA, but after SEMA (where we'll release a bunch of information about what we've done to them), we'll start posting regular updates about the cars and the racing.

If by stereo you mean exhaust system, then... we're not sure yet. We're open to suggestions. Our exhaust guy won't be able to fabricate a set of headers on time. From what I've read, it looks like the closest to what we designed is the Xerd long tube headers. Their phone numbers seem disconnected, though. Know anywhere to get them?

Thanks,
Joel

Not sure what's going on with Xerd but, you may want to consider Crawford Headers. They are not full length like the Xerd but they are probably the best performers for a short tube style. Plus I'm sure Crawford would love to have their product on your Race Car.

Hoosier Cups - the tire that Hoosier makes specifically for Grand-Am Cup. It's the spec tire for the series.

We're entering the NASA 25-Hour in order to really shake down the cars and figure out the service life of a bunch of parts. For that, we'll use Toyo RA1s - sticky and last a long time.

On the subject of this thread, when you see the cars at SEMA, one will be wearing 350evo headers and the other will have Nismo headers. We're still working on sourcing the long tube headers (Crawford custom makes their headers to order, so they don't have any sitting around for us to get with such short notice)...

Thanks for all your input!

What kind of motor are you running?, the VQ35DE or VQ35HR?

What kind of brake cooling kit are you going to run? I have always wanted a good backing plate that mates up to the rotor. They can be had for a BMW or Porsche pretty easily, but nothing great is available for the Z.

Basically, a stock DE with Nismo cams, rebuilt by Hasselgren Engineering (http://hasselgren.com) to get us as much power as we can without sacrificing longevity. The rules pretty much have us running as close as possible to bone stock inside the motor. Outside the motor, we have an intake and of course, headers to straight pipe.

We have StopTech brakes and I'm currently designing our ducting. We'll be making something like what you're talking about that takes the ducted air and brings it into the rotor hat area. It looks like there is some room for it, but not much. We'll see how well we can do it, though, probably not before SEMA.

Joel - all the SCCA T2 guys have been trying to get a backing plate for our kit. Been talking with Nissan Motorsports US to design one and I think at the Runoffs it sunk in. I asked them to hook up my kit, which has no backing plate and only comes with zip ties Anyway, my point here is, if you guys have time to design one then I would suggest you talking to Nissan and perhaps we can leverage your design. IF you don't have time to design one, then I think one will be coming from Nissan in the near future.

Drive on!

Where will you guys be at SEMA? I'll come check out your display.

I've been using the n-tech engineering brake ducts. While it's not as efficient as a completely sealed backing plate, it has reduced my rotor temps.

It would be real nice if you you guys produce a backing plate for the public.. hint hint.

How about developing a quality A-Arm with tonnes of negative camber adjustment (-1 to -5) and some caster adjustment?
I have actually been considering engineering my own and having it built for me since a friend of mine owns a CNC machine shop.

I know SPL made a couple sets of their upper camber/caster arms that can be set to as low as -5deg of camber. It was initially a mistake on the jig which made them too short, but Kuah was talking about making a small batch of these as race-spec arms. RickDogg got a set of those. If you're interested in a set, give SPL a call as I think he has a few left. If the demand was there I'm sure he'd make more.

Hello,

The SPL stuff looks pretty cool. I'm not sure that it would be legal for us - most cars have to run stock, we're allowed camber adjusting front upper control arms.

As for the plates, we will certainly design some, but what we do after that depends on time. IE, if we're in as big a crunch as I think we'll be, I'll just fabricate something and we won't be drawing it up until much later. I promised my friends at StopTech that I would properly duct their brakes...

As for where we'll be, I know it's surprising, but even at this late date, we're not exactly sure. We're not going to be in a booth, so SEMA hasn't decided where to put us. So far what we know is that the two cars will be together, inside one of the buildings, and near a hall entrance.

mpowers: we certainly do. Of course, it won't be cheap for the driver...
