^ hi! thank goodness for this thread as i'm just about to change tyres as well, hope you don't mind me hijacking. However, I only bought two tyres at first because my rears had gone bald, but now the fronts are done as well and I have yet to mount the rears. I plan on autoxing the car so I'm wondering what your feels of having 245's all around is? I'm actually a little worried that sticking the 245 on the 8in wheel will increase it's profile, but does that even matter?
lastly, I bought two toyo t1r's... and I just saw a deal for 2 michelin ps2's. The toyo's are 245/35/18, while the michelins are 245/40/18's. Would this configuation work? and which wheels should I mount on the front? I personally think the 245/35's should be on the front to match the OE rolling radius... but then i'd get massive understeer at autox's right?
thanks in advance for all your guy's input.

I don't have an answer for your second question regarding mismatched tires but perhaps someone else here does. As far as I know, since you have a base model jst like me, it won't affect any type of electronics. That's the main reason people stagger sizes front and rear.
Regarding using 245's all around, I really like it. The car is very well balanced and it has way less understeer. It still squeels like crazy but it turns
I have 245's on 8" wheels up front with no problem at all and the tires are wearing fine.
That's why I made the question about mounting the front wheels on the back and vice-versa, because I want to wear the tires out evenly.

As I mentioned above in this thread, I'm running 245/40/18 all around on stock 06' wheels (18x8F and 18x8.5R)
New question: can I just mount the front wheels on the back and vice versa since the tires are the same size? I don't know if the offsets are the same or what else would be affected. Just wondering so that i can rotate wheels with tires instead of having to dismount, mount and balance tires all over again.
Thanks.

going with different tires front to rear might be more of a problem b/c when you're at the limit of traction, the 2 tire types will behave differently...one might have more grip, one might build heat faster etc...in autoX, I don't think it's a safety issue, but it could mess with your car's handeling. (I peronsally wouldnt do this for a HPDE b/c of safety...speeds are much higher and unless you're running different tires for a specific reason [race teams do this], it could cause the car to react in a negative way)

Ok, so I'm geting conflicting opinions here...
Sincity350z, I have 18s not 17s and they clear the 14" StopTechs F/R fine. 17s probably would not fit though as the calipers are just a few milimeters from touching the inside of the wheels. The attached pictures don't show detail but you can see they fill the wheels pretty good...

I'm wondering why you wouldn't...I know that the wider rim would most likley provide a slightly larger tire footprint (tire would be less buldged, and would have a greater contact patch); buth other than that, why not?
*if you're buying new rims and plan to run the same tires, it would make sense to get the same rim sizes so that you can swap them F to R, but he's stuck w/ what he has.
Yeah, he's stuck with what he's got but he doesn't necessarily have to do it this way. He can spend the $s and rotate the tires correctly, instead of rotating the rims to save $s. If he can afford a $30K car, he should be able to afford to rotate the tires properly also.
It's not a money thing, it's a convenience thing. That's the only reason I asked. They are cheap tires so if I can't rotate the wheels I'll just use them in their current postion until they are done.
Thanks

Nice read. I am in the process of getting my stock treack rims setup dor autox and then eventually road racing. They have brand new dunlop s9000 or something. They have 90% tread. I was thinking of getting another set of rear tracks for the front. then selling or getting my 8's widened for the street. My question is would a 265 F&R be ok on the stock track rims? I see most tires are 265/35/18. Sorry if I throw this offtopic
Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the help.
I was thinking of getting a pair of rear wheels or the front too to have the same wheel size all around and not deal with the problem when rotating. But if I'm going to do that, I might as well sell them and buy some Enkei wheels. I would break about even and have some nicer track wheels.
I know they put 275's on stock wheels but for autocross. At roadcourses the cornering speeds are much higher, so not sure about the 265's. I'm running 245's all around and I know 255's are ok on 8.5" wheels too.
A common setup for the stock 18's is 235/40/18F and 255/40/18R. I just went square with 245's...

here's what I run for reference:
AutoX:
enkei 17X8.5, 275/40/17s all 4 corners
Track:
was enkei 17X8.5, Front 255/40/17, rear 275/40/17
now: sotck 17's w/ the same tires.
*from reading around a lot last yr, most autoX guys go w/ the same tires all around to help w/ rotating the car, and for ease of rotating wheels. for Track, ppl like the staggered tire set-up to dial in a bit of understeer...it's a bit scarier to loose control on the track vs. autoX.
