I know what you're saying about the brakes. I couldn't finish my first trackday either because of brakes, and the car only had 2500 miles.

Nice pics too.

There is another laguna day on the dec 23rd that I'll be attending. Hope it doesn't rain..
Thanks! I would love to do laguna again but it's pricey. maybe Thill next!!

I did! I have Hawk pads and ATE super blue!

for sure! If I found out I was the one who cause that accident, I'd probably just ditch the car and run on foot

Nope. Check out the following organizations...

www.SpeedVentures.com
www.RedlineTrackEvents.com
www.RedlineTimeAttack.com
www.Trackmasters.com

And you can also check out the track's websites, they usually have calendars...

www.ButtonwillowRaceway.com
www.WillowSpringsRaceway.com
www.Laguna-Seca.com
www.InfineonRaceway.com
www.SpringMountainMotorsports.com

and so on...

In-car cam setups rock; especially, if you don't get back to that track in a while. I always review my in-car footage of the previous times I was at that track the night before to remind myself of the things I did well (and not so well).

Did you 'lose the pedal' or did you still have good pedal feel, just no braking force?

If it was the latter, it means you didn't bed the pads in properly and they've glazed over.

If your pedal got real mushy and you had to push it farther to the floor, it means you boiled your fluid. Even high-temp synth fluid can boil.

My guess, since it was your first event, was that you were starting your braking too early, and not braking strong enough, staying on the brakes longer than necessary. This will heat up the pads and fluid beyond what they were designed for, but will not wear out the pad material.

I think the pads are fading, not necessarily glazed over.

HP+ are the ones to get for track days. They'll make noise under light braking but once they warm up they're good.

here are the rest of the pics from that track day. pick the nov. 2
i'm in a miata #17. looks like the OP is #150. i was approx 2:09 on average street tires. an evo IX next to me with race tires was running 1:49

No the pedal does not feel mushy at all...maybe a little but bearly noticeable. I still feel the brakes "biting" but it doesn't slow down as quick. At the end of the session i noticed my brakes where smoking.... Yeah..i was braking pretty early and don't "jump" on them. I start braking and apply more force as the corner is getting closer. Am I braking wrong???

Tip: make sure you clean your wheels VERY good after the event to get the track pad brake dust off them -- it is very corrosive! CARBOTECH track pads aren't too bad in that respect, but a friend of mine put Hawk Blues on his WRX and did a track event. A day after the event we had a big wind/rain storm here and his car took damage from fallen tree limbs, etc. It sat at the body shop for 3 weeks until all of the repairs were done. The body shop did an excellent job on his car, but the Hawk Blue dust ate into his wheels and now they look like they were on a car sitting in the farmer's field since 1973! I felt bad for him. Now he has to get new wheels.

I was there on Saturday but was very busy with my students so only got to run 2 sessions. I was lucky enough to go for a ride in the Carrera GT! What a machine !! It was nice seeing you again Eagle1. Wish I could have gone for a spin in your TT car.

My pad knockback got so bad my brake pedal went to the floor after the corkscrew and I almost bit it coming down into T2 because of this. New hub assembiles are going on this week at Z Car Garage.
None of you tracksters get this??

Is anyone going to thunderhill this coming weekend?

I'll see if I have time this week to download some video.

When I jack my Z up on all 4's (on jackstands) and swap my street pads in after the event, I clean my wheels good while they are off the car. HRE's website (HRE Wheels) recommend a half and half solution of Simple Green and distilled water. I figure if a wheel company that sells $1000+ per wheel wheels recommend that to clean their high-end (or at least what I would consider high-end) wheels its good enough for me. No surprise, that solution works terrific! Cleans my Z's wheels right up after a 2 or 3 day weekend track event; best thing since sliced bread as far as wheel cleanup goes IMHO. I highly recommend it.
