Does the Nismo wing add any downforce?
The NASA TT rules have been released for next season and I am being heavily penalized for my nismo wing because it is longer than 8" from front to rear of the car (it is 8.5" to be exact). I really bought it for cosmetic reasons and don't think it really does anything in terms of downforce ( outside of the 5 lbs that it weighs).
Does anyone think the nismo wing adds any usable downforce on a road course??

HRP sells a nice ACP wing with a 1/2" wicker that's legal for Grand AM AGT, SCCA GT, WC GT, etc. $1,799 without end plates or uprights.

I was debating this very question the other day. Downforce on a wing is created by making air underneath the wing flow faster than the air on top of the wing. Based on looks alone, I don't think the Nismo wing's shape really has that effect on the airflow. Then again, I am no aerodynamics expert.

Basically, I enter my street car in the TT series and pretty much want to keep what I've got on the car and try to stay in class TTB. My two big point accumulating items (that don't reduce lap times that significantly) are my unichip, that gets me roughly 10 lbs of torque, and my wing that makes me feel 10 years younger. Since I never felt like I had a deficiency in downforce, I was considering just scrapping the coffee table wing. My other option is to unplug the unichip when I get to the track to save those points. I'm just regretting the fact that I plunked down the $$ on they chip and dyno tune and I'm potentially not going to be able to use it.
My plan was to keep the same car I ran last year with no changes. I'm not really into it enough anymore to be scrounging around for that extra 10th of a sec that I was looking for in the past.

When talking about a street car and that particular wing... I think the weight savings of losing the wing, along with the points savings, would outweight the benefits of keeping it. Especially if it bumps you out of the top of one class into the bottom of another.

Will probably be ditching the wing. This whole think is kind of unfortunate because I have to pay a body shop $500 to remove it just to satisfy the NASA rulebook.

If you need to get rid of the wing why don't you just put the money into a new CF hatch?

mine as 4 bolts and a few strips of double sided tape
if I had to I think I could have mine off in about 25 mins. the only hard part would be to make sure the bolts didnt fall down in the hatch when they were loosened.

It's only 4 bolts, but you have to seal it each time with silicone or else water will leak through.
Too much of a hassle when I'm already changing tires and brakes at each event.

oh yeah thats right. i remember when they put mine on they used that urethane goo that use to replace windsheilds with on all my drilled holes

When Porsche went with the giant whale tail wing on their race cars many years ago, it was an "emergency contermeasure" to keep the car stable in the corners. They figured the stability would counter the increase in drag down the straight.
What a surprise it was when they found out the car was not only more stable, it was faster too...
The Z Track is not a good choice for TT Dave. Just for fun, build a TTB Mustang and see how much goodies you can put on it to match your stock Z!
Back to the topic. The wing is probably better than the stock aero package. Is it worth it ? No idea!
