Default issue with BBK and turning hard

i dont see anyone else bringing up this issue, so i wonder if its just me.

ever since i installed 14" brakes (stoptech) i notice this. when i turn really hard, the next time i press the brakes the peddle falls a bit before the brakes engage. this has been going on for 2-3 years, i have had the brakes for a long time.

what is happening here is obvious; there is enough play in the wheel bearings, so my rotors are pushing the pads back into the calipers when i turn hard. so then when i hit the brakes, some of the peddle travel is spent to get the pads back in contact with the rotors.

i replaced the wheel bearings with brand new ones 3000 miles ago, and its exactly the same.

i have made a habit of knowing that when i am driving really hard that my brake peddle response will be lacking because of this. but i really do not like it at all.

surely you guys that spent a ton of time at the road course would not consider this acceptable?

am i the only one with this problem?

You are not alone. In fact, the thread for this subject is just a few topics down.

You're absolutely not the only one with this problem. Search for 'pad knockback' or 'hub flex' and you'll find some of our discussions about it.

I've learned to live with making a quick tap on the brake pedal before a heavy braking zone, as replacing the hubs doesn't appear to solve the problem. Other than installing anti-knockback springs behind the pistons (which some here have done with good results), the other main option would be to replace your pads more often than necessary (i.e. don't let them get thin enough where there would be very much travel for the pistons), but that option is pricey.

This is definitely a criteria I'll use when researching my next car, as having to pump up the brakes (especially at the track) is a PITA!

here's an article from stoptech about "pad knockback"

does this issue happen with the OEM brembos? what about the smaller diameter kits from Stoptech (13 inch, etc)?

it happens no matter what you run, but keep in mind that the larger diameter brakes you have, the more you will notice it. this is because the distance from center of the hub is further, so the travel from the same ammount of deflection is greater. i did not really notice it with the brembos on my car, however i didnt have the massive tires i have now, nor did I have the confidence back then to be turning as fast as i do now.
