Back from PIR, Trail braking, knock back...etc
Just came back from Portland International RAceway yesterday, a few questions in my mind and some observations...
First of all my car: 03 Track Pack stock Brembo, Pagid orange club race pads, 275/40/17 Toyo RA1 all way around, FR sway bars and HKS Coils.
1. Could we Trail brake into corners with our Z with the VDC off? I am always under the impression that our Z can't be trailbraked because the VDC cannot be completely shut off thus I'll always get understeer when I try to Trail brake. (If you have watched one of the earlier Best Motoring video, the drift king has mentioned that as well) What's everybody's stance on this? With this at the back of my mind, I usually brake a bit earlier and make sure i kill enuf speed before turn in (turn 1 @ PIR), my friends in their S2000 can brake very late on the other hand. (being lighter helps too). Ideally, I perfer to be able to trail brake the car. I used to drive FF VW so I had to do a lot of that back then.
2. I get quite a lot of brake knock backs at the track, after long sweepers when I step on the breaks I always have knock backs. Sometimes I go in deep into a corner when I brake, and I can't tell whether it's the ABS or the knockback.
I am fairly new to track days and still learning the track (about 7 events so far past 3 years, only 2 @ PIR), but I've been kart racing causually and autocrossing for the last 6 years.
Thanks for your comments in advance!
