Default Kumho Ecsta MX - Your Experiences

I started this thread to get some thoughts from people who have used this tire for HPDE or auto-x. What do you think of this tire, as well as optimum PSI's when hot (for track vs auto-x) and your general thoughts on how this tire stacks up against other street tires (Azenis etc)?

I've done a couple of track days, and auto-x's. My setup is a bone stock 03 G35 coupe, with 255/40/17 Ecsta MX's. I am still struggling to find the optimal target PSI's for this tire when hot. IMO these tires are pretty good for their price, but I'm not sure how they perform next to 615's or Toyo's etc, since I have not experienced those other tires.

After 4 track days at VIR Full, the left front obviously looks very worked. The outer edges of the tire have a kind of "glaze" to it, where it almost looks blue'ish from certain angles...anyone experience this? What does this mean?

Yes, you overheated the tires. G/Z doesnt have enough camber up front, you will chew up any tires no matter what you buy. If you want to stay stock, you just have to keep flipping the tires. If you want to mod it, get a new control arm and dial some camber into it.

I run 245/45/17 Front 255/45/17 Rear Kumho MX's. So far two track days (Mid-Ohio and Beaverun) as well as 4-5 autocrosses. I'm lowered 1 inch with Eibach springs and have rear SPC control arms/toe bolts but run factory spec toe/camber in the rear for tire wear. They are much better tires than the OEM Crapenzas. However, on a previous car I had the Falken RT 215's. The MX's are not even close to the overall grip of the Falken's. However, the Azenis does get "greesy" when too hot. As far as tire pressure at the track I run 40PSI all around "hot" checked right after getting off track. Overall, they are holding up well. For the price I am very happy.

I ran MXs on a basically stock 1992 LT1 Corvette in a local autocross street tire class and was happy with their performance. Also used the car as an instructor car with SVTOA and Road One and the Kumhos were consistent lap after lap.
